Well, the best of luck to him - here's hoping the mountain is in a kindly mood this season.

Best of luck Alan, be sure to come back safe and well.
I second that, I wish him all the best in this attempt, and to return safely so that we can all congratulate him.
May I be the first to call for Alan to get an OBE for this.
 Knighthood you mean.
Maybe if he completes this he can upgrade to a non-chav sponsor :-)
 Best wishes Alan.
Yes, Al. Best of luck to you.
Best you make it back safe and sound - you STILL owe me a pint from Kendal last year...
Best of British Al! Perhaps a pint in the Golden Rule when you're back down! Keep it safe!
 All the Best Alan.
Hopefully he won't get any of the "But you didn't stand on the summit" nonsense

Kangchenjunga is a sacred mountain and expeditions have always agreed to leave the final few feet untrodden.

A bit in the Times today about Alan.

 In reply to hedley williams:
I think he may not have got to the true summit of Cho Oyu according to Everest News or MountEverest.net

Survivor, this was brouhgt up last year as well. The response from both Berghaus and Alan has been that he is satisfied that he got to the true summit. Given the nature of the summit of Cho Oyu the exact highest point, on what is essentially a plateau, is difficult to locate in even good weather. At the time of summiting Alan was in poor visibility and deterirating weather. Standard navigation techniques of bearing and pacing was used to reach the the summit to Alan's satisfaction. As was widely discussed last year when this story arose the consensus is that if Alan's happy that he summitted then who has the right to challenge that? His word is certainly good enough for me!
MountEverest.net carried the allegations that he failed to reach the summit of Cho Oyu, but provided no details reagrding why the summit was called into question. The same website also repeated allegations regarding Alan ignoring injured climbers on his ascent of K2. These allegations were strongly denied by both Hinkes and his sponsors Berghaus, complete with evidence to support their version of events. EverestNews.com accepted Dhaulagiri in 2004 as his 13th of the 14 8000m summits - as does every other major mountaineering authority.
