Fair point but less likely than you might imagine - although I agree it would only have to happen once....
Apart from in the military and the diplomatic this would be the only case I've heard of of a non national interpreter, not that that means much, just unusual.
And that's in 30 years and 25 countries. I realise the world is changing but this is extremely unusual.
Yes, specially as thinking about I've only VERY rarely come across that. Even in Basra in April the interpreter was an Iraqi national. Not a very good interpreter either to be honest....
Hat off to your mate. Pashto is meant to be a very difficult language to master.
