Zubald, I only jest, but are you the editor of Trail?
no really are you? ED you could write a whole book on the supporting facts about Rumsfield having bloody hands and being responsible for the deaths of many innocent Iraqi's.
Nick, it's a fact that what happened in Florida was all geared to stealing the election for Bush (first time round).
Cameron, I support you all the way on your position.

100,000 killed 50,000 of them children (they tend to get blown apart while playing in there gardens) and youre worried about a line in an article in A magazine hardly anyone reads.!!

I think most of the points I would make have already been made. Irrespective of the Rumsfeld debate, it is enjoyable to read a magazine with a bit of 'balls', and balances out the sycophantic toadying of similar outdoor magazines.

> it's a fact that what happened in Florida was all geared to stealing the election for Bush...
Is it? I'm not saying that I don't believe you, but I'm simply not aware of it being proven as a fact. The whole mechanics of the American electoral system is a joke, which inevitably provokes accusations from both sides virtually everywhere. It just so happens that Florida received much more scrutiny because of how important it was to the outcome of the election. Don't forget, however, that it takes a lot more electoral college votes than just Florida's to get a president elected. I struggle to comprehend how the whole grand plan for getting Bush elected hinged on the fact that his brother was/is the governor of Florida. Now, I'm not suggesting that everything was above board (I really don't know), but both parties are known to "manipulate" the system and, in the end, if it really was down to dirty tricks, then the Bush camp quite simply out foxed the Gore camp. If Gore had won the election, we would have heard just as much bitching, but from different sections of the media and the public.
PS. Micheal Moore's an idiot and, IMHO, he contributed to Bush winning his second term.

Political comments on outdoors related subjects are (imo) fine, for the reasons Cameron mentioned: in fact, they seem to me to be important, in a magazine like TGO, which is run by truly knowledgeable specialists in this area - but that's not why Darren started the thread. Cameron - what about the points that Darren made?
There'll be TGO readers with a whole range of views in relation to the Iraq war debate, which is a highly emotive subject. I can't see why it's considered ok to throw in political remarks that a reasonably sized chunk of the readership is likely to find inflammatory, if the remarks have nothing at all to do with the subject matter of the magazine.

It's already been pointed out that MH writes as a columnist.
Columnists revel in their bias, journalists try to disguise it ;-)
|
 |
I'm not going to harp on about my views on Iraq but I personally thought the remark was in bad taste in an article on weather forecasting.
I have no truck with TGO being political or comentating on events that nothing to do with the outdoors, In fact it's quite refreshing to see an "interest" magazine having an opinion on events such as Iraq or whatever takes their fancy. Just please get the context right.

 |
I can't see how slating a politician can ever be in bad taste. That's what they're for!
|
 |
It has been said that MH is a columnist and that columnists put forward /their/ views. That is fine and I doubt (m)any here would take issue with that ... as long as they have some pertinance to the publication and/or issue under discussion.
MH's views on the Iraq war, irrespective of personal viewpoint, had no relevance to the article or tgo.
And the welsh rugby team did not deserve to win - they only did so by cowardly picking on England's wimpy schoolkid.

Welcome to international rugby Taity !!!!!!

Now that I've read it, I thought it was pretty good, with the "murderer" comments put in context it's not as bad as it's made out. I vote Mike stays!
|
 |
Thanks for all of that. Mike stays...

I agree with James Cassidy, when I read it I laughed, I didn't take it too seriously, I thought that was the whole idea of a columnist.
