hi judy wecome to om, dont be so hard on us this thread is from 2005, myself and i suspect many others on here now didnt use this site then so feel that your first post on here is a bit harsh.
the Carneddau ponies are the closest to wild ponies to be found in the UK. Much is made of their mixed genes but in fact, they are thought to be genetically the closest of all ponies, including "true" breeds, to the Celtic pony. Certainly, stock could be improved by selective breeding but the fact remains that they really are a link to the past.
I don't understand the RSPB's attitude as hinted at here since the grazing habits of the Carneddau ponies have a great positive influence on the presence and survival of the chough, which is something I'd consider important.
I feel slightly ashamed that people here would take the piss out of an individual with deep convictions about animal welfare. Her contribution may have been a bit of a rant but that is no reason to dismiss everything the poor cow has to say.
