How To Make A Memory Map Wainwright Logbook
Dave Mycroft shows Memory Map users how to create their own, map-linked Wainwright logbook and you can use the same principles for Munroes, Nuttalls or even tea shops :-)

Unfortunately I managed to send Jon the wrong file for the Wainwrights overlay. The one on here contains other data too like my personal routes/tracks etc. I've redone the file and sent it to Jon but in the meantime if anyone wants the replacement file then just drop me an email and I'll forward it to you.

True Nigel, but the problem is that the export all and export visible are so close together it's easy to make the mistake. Naturally I checked the file before sending it off, but it would have needed checking on a totally different PC to show the problem. The file on here still contains all the data, it's just that it also has data of no use to others regrding my own personal routes etc.

Thanks Neil :) I can sort it as a pdf for you if you want, but I've made a couple of tweaks since the article and improved the overlay to include all the Wainwright markers being bnamed and the ability to show or hide them at the click of a mouse. I've also got a similar overlay of the Munroes nearly finished. drop me an email about Memory Map before you buy it Neil.

Hi there,

I must confess to have been a GPS/Electronic Map sceptic until six months ago. However, having given it a go I'm a complete convert. The combination is a great way of planning and following new routes. The added bonus of the additional confidence in knowing where you are in bad weather (got my priorities wrong some might say!) makes this a system well worth investing in once you've got your boots, clothing, waterproofs and pack sorted!

I recently planned a walk knowing that the weather had been very damp (to say the least!) and was able to devise a "dry" route and confirm good paths (within reason) from the aerial photographs so that my walking partner for the day didn't become drenched to the skin or covered in mud!

Anyway, to my question! I've used the Wainwright strip map to navigate the C-2-C. Has anybody had experience of the Memory Map Pennine strip map and would they recommend it?

Cheers

Hello all, first post so be gentle with me.
Was going to make a new thread till I found this one.

Great stuff, I have similar overlays I made up for the following:

Munros and Tops
Corbetts and Tops
Grahams and subs
Donalds and Tops
Wainwrights and outliers
UK Mainland Marilyns

whew, if you want any of these drop me a mail.

I use them with Memory map 2004 + latest build from MM webpage, I have no idea if they work on earlier versions.

I waas planning on doing the nuttalls and hewitts as well but haven't got round to that yet.
Also, one for the future is to link each Munro ican with the relevant page on Munromagic. But right now, I hear the kettle boiling.

Cheers

Ewan

What's a Nuttall & a Hewitt?

A Hewitt is a hill in England, Wales or Ireland over two thousand feet (609.6 m) high with a relative height difference from the surrounding area of at least 30 m. The list was compiled and is maintained by Alan Dawson.

A Nuttall is a Hewitt in England or Wales, and included in Anne and John Nuttall's guides

I didn't think these 2 lists were as popular, so I never bothered with them at the time. :)

A Hewitt is a mountain in England and Wales over 610m (about 2000ft) high with 30m (about 100ft)ascent on all sides. There's 314 of them I think with another 200 odd in Ireland?

A Nuttall is similar but with only a 50ft drop between them, there are....... em ....... lots of them. :)

There are 525 Hewitts in total: 178 in England, 137 in Wales and 211 in Ireland.

The requirement of only a 15m reascent to qualify as a Nuttall as opposed to 30m for a Hewitt means there are 439 Nuttalls.

Thanks boggyandfoggy, if I find time I'll contact you for them myself too and test them on the previous versions as well. I can't see a problem with them working on the 2003 version - but best to check :)
