Is it me or are all these type of shoes beginning to look more and more just like a pair of trainers from sports companys like Nike etc?

Yep, like I said in the article, it's Scarpa's attempt to get into the lucrative everyday outdoor trainer market - the one that Merrell and Salomon and co have the bulk of at the moment I think.
The Helium and its new bro' the Neon, are a different can of fish though. I've used the Helium and it's a very effective, stable walking shoe. It's always lacked a bit of cushioning so the updated version with more shock absorption should be good. I reckon the Neon may also be quite effective with a bit more ankle protection.

It's a pity the neon doesn't appear to be available without a gore-tex lining. I'm very dubious of the benefits of gore-tex in a boot or show.

 bugger show=shoe of course
That's a pity (if there's no unlined version). I really like my Heliums but they are a bit hard on the feet used day after day.

Now I've actually read Jon's article I'm not unhappy after all cos I wouldn't buy a "boot" version. The cheapo model (without the leather) might even be better as while it probably won't take the knocks quite so well it should dry quicker. T
The only real gripe with the Heliums is that if they do get soaked they take an age to dry out again.

Is it me, or does anyone else think these shoes are starting to look a little too garish?
My old Scarpa Ventos, which I wear around town, look much less psychedelic!

I've got a pair of the bright orange Pro Ascents so these look positively beige to me. ;-)
 Oh well!
Some people are, by nature, exhibitionists!
;-)

Wait until the girls start wearing pink boots on the hill. Oh and H.H. are bringing out new pink hellies too. be aware guys.
I'm sure there's some blokes out that that would love pink boots!
Scarpa already make pink boots for girls - all you need to do is leave your Manta's in the sun for long enough.....and yes, they turn and interesting shade of pink!
A former colleague of mine has a pair of pink boots. No idea what brand they are though. I think hers are more a lilac shade of pink.
I may be wrong and probably am but I'm sure years ago you could buy plastic winter boots that were pink.
I bet she got them from TOG24. I KNOW they had some lilacy pink ones last year.
Why are plastic boots always such aweful colours - last time I went to get some it was a choice of lime green, orange or bright and I mean BRIGHT red. What's wrong with black?
Back to the original point of this thread - the new Scarpa's look like trainers to me and have way to much stitching - its going to rip open, I just know it is...

If they're anything like the Heliums they will probably survive any treatment up to and including a small nuclear explosion.
