What a fabulous achievement, especially given the conditions that forced all the others to turn back. Hope he has a safe & speedy return to Blighty.
A Brit to be proud of for a change. Let's see what sort of national recognition he gets. He definitely deserves more than most of our so-called national heroes and sportsmen.
And let's hope he manages to drink his pint before someone nicks it!!

 Nice one Alan!!
Guess some one owes you a pint now...
Sir Alan of Berghaus perhaps?
 Sir Alan of Cho Oyu?
 Lord High Commander of Berghaus????
Well done to him! It's a stunning achievement.
I think he deserves more than a pint though- a good malt perhaps?
Flaff - the "pint" reference is down to the fact that while at the NEC for the Outdoors Show Alan stashed some beer in the Press/VIP area while giving a talk and a certain OM member helped herself to one of his bottles.

Great news, all them years of hard work has finally paid off, well done!

Badgers of the world salute you Mr Hinkes. I thought Ten Tors was hard.
 Yeah, superb achievement.
Don't know, but 7pm sounds like a late summit arrival time must have a been damn close thing.
Brilliant News Congrats to the man
Nice pic of him on Annapurna's summit too :)
Will the National Press cover this by :-
a) Putting his picture on the front page and then running a full story on pages 4 & 5
b) Mentioning it in a small column although still on the front page
c)Mention it in a small column on about page 9
d) Not mention it at all
I will watch the 2200 news with interest to see if it has warranted a mention.
Should qualify for a gong in this years birthday, although I wonder if anyone will recognise him returning through Heathrow?
Fantastic achievment Alan.
Great stuff, and well done!
 Probably d)

"Nice pic of him on Annapurna's summit too"
They would have used one of him on the summit of Cho Oyu but...
 Great news, well done Hinksey.
Sports personality of the year?
He may get a 3 second mention if he's lucky, whereas foul mouthed granny shagger Rooney will be lauded from now until Xmas.
More power to yer' elbow Hinksey! Get in!!!!!!!

Many thanks for all your messages of support. I am sure that there will be significant interest in Alan's exceptional achievement so keep your eyes peeled tomorrow and in the coming days. Alan called us around lunch time today and from the round of applause in the office it was the news everyone had been waiting for. We released the news immediately and have received some fantastic messages, all of which have been personally passed to Alan. Everyone at Berghaus is proud to work with such an exceptional man and we'll be giving him a huge welcome back to the UK. Thanks again everyone for your support!
