Does anyone know anything about this tent? Does anyone one one? Is it any good? It only looks like Blacks and Millets sell this tent and I cant find it on the Karrimor wevbsite as it's being updated still.... Any help or advise would be grately appreciated. Thanks

I've just bought the Beta. Seems to be alright, although it's only been in the garden so far. On the 14th it embarks on a month long trip of Europe, so it'll be put through it's paces.
Had a problem with one of the tent poles, but I went back into Blacks and asked them to switch it for another, which they did.

Hmmm..isn't there anyone else out there who's almost as inexperienced as me? I have walked/camped a lot but I was always with someone else who knew what to do. I'm now on my own and would like to learn how to do things properly but find it extremely difficult with lack of finances and company. I have also recently moved to a place called Shipston near to Stratford on Avon and there are no local clubs. Can anyone make any suggestions and, be nice, I've read some of the responses on this site to other queries and I'm a sensitive soul!!

Generally you will find that if it is sold by Blacks/Millets (both same company), then it will be very very heavy and bomb proof and probably not that cheap.
Helen I am pretty sure there are members of the backpackers club in your area.

Helen, it usually helps if you respond to threads staying 'on-topic', i.e. in this case, talking about the Karrimor tent. Unless I've missed something, your plea for help seems totally unconnected with the tent thread. You might try starting a new thread asking for help. I'm sure you'll get lots; it's really a pretty friendly bunch around here. There are also 'meets' you could go to where you would be made welcome and given advice.
Welcome :-)
K: sorry can't help with the tent, but hopefully got your thread back on track ;-)

Can I say a collective thank you to all those who responded and offered advice. It's much appreciated. I'm sorry I lost my way on here and ended up on the wrong bit....doesn't say much for my map reading eh?

Did anyone have any news on the original thread. I cant find any reference to a Karrimor Omega either

i have both the omega, alpha and the beta, all very good tents and not as heavy as you would think, very well made tents and are all "outer first" setups, excelent build quality and worth more than they are charging for them. you get alot of tent for the money and i can highly recommend them. i have several other tents from marmot, MSR, black diamond, north face and hillberg so I know quality when i see it grab the karrimor before they are gone for good as they are no longer in production. shame you cant get footprints for them

I have just bought an Omega for my grandson. It is a blue material geodetic dome design with 2 long colour coded aluminium poles in external X formation threaded through sleeves and clips to hold the main dome of the flysheet in shape. There is a smaller pole that crosses the main X to support the two porches at either side of the tent. The seam work and stitching appears to be of excellent standard and the inner tent is supported by elasticated loops to the flysheet. The doors can be fully opened or opened but protected by insect proof mesh. There is an in-built groundsheet that extends about 4" up from the floor to the base of the door. There is also a repair kit in the tent bag. The guy ropes are pre-connected. Having assembled the tent once there is no need to remove the inner tent when taking the tent down which makes for very rapid erection the next time the tent is used. The quality of the materials is high - 3000mm hydrostatic pressure protection for the flysheet and 5000mm hydrostatic protection for the groundsheet

actually the beta is definitely an inner pitched first tent i've had one since december and used it about 12 times 2 poles to raise the inner and another to give the flysheet some shape before you put it over the top. its a good tent it hasn't let me down but if you want something lightweight then i'd recommend the vaude ultralight series

Ref Karriomor Omega. Hi. I have a Karrimor Omega tent and love its a great little backpackers tent. about 2.3kg in weight, packs down really small easy for strapping to the bottom of a rucksack. 2 porches, one decent largish porch the other smaller. Outer first construction, 3000mm hydrostatic head, lightweight strong aluminium ploes and pegs. Has survived 6 years of camping with me in gale force winds and torrential rain without batting an eyelid. Had a beta at one point too, but prefer the omega as slightly bigger (also slightly heavier, the beta was about 1.9kg) and the beta was inner first construction, no good if its raining. If you can get it, buy it, don't think they do them anymore.
