Is it me or is that a screen grab from multimap.

There's a red circle in exectly the same spot as if you enter "snowdon" into multimap.

Clicky linky.

Obviously OM might have the required written permission in which case I take it back.

Yep it is easily confused with a screen grab from Multimap. If Multimap are really pissed off at us, I'm happy to take it down, it's there purely as a general illustration not as route information or anything else, which we obviously wouldn't do.

I've changed the link so it's clickable btw.

And Streetmap is even worse. As I've probably ranted about at length previously...

Google maps looks good, though...

Jon - can you put Scafell Pike on the map too so the 3-Peakers can print it off?

I'd have thought it wouldn't be beyond the OS to choose 5 different small areas of the UK and make them free to copy, stuck the images on the web and let anyone use them for illustrative or educational purposes.

Ideally the 5 would be different types of area with as much variation as possible, i'd suggest

A bit of coast with a mixture of cliffs, sandly beaches and salt marsh.
A bit of urban sprawl.
A bit of lowland farmland.
A chunk of mountain.
Some forrest.

Obviously they'd conside that this would destroy their revenue stream.

Cheers for changing the link Jon, I allways fail when I try to make links.

John, the OS Get-a-map service allows certain types of usage. Their terms and conditions state:

"You are authorised to download a maximum of 10 images from the Get-a-map service for use on your web pages, providing the following credit appears below all images:

Image produced from the Ordnance Survey Get-a-map service. Image reproduced with kind permission of Ordnance Survey and Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland."

Also:

You are authorised to make a maximum of 10 copies of each mapping image as displayed on your browser for personal, non-commercial use only (for teaching and classroom use, see note below). You must not use the images for financial gain. All hard copies and electronically published material produced from Ordnance Survey data must carry the acknowledgement:

Reproduced from Ordnance Survey map data by permission of Ordnance Survey, © Crown copyright.

Also:

"Copies of Get-a-map mapping for teaching and classroom use.

Educational establishments may download sufficient copies of each map image as displayed on your browser to provide each pupil/student and teacher with an individual copy."

I think OM would be classed as "Commercial Use" however a note to the OS would quickly clear that up.

I don't care, I can draw my own maps - I think it's hard to argue that the map in the above article, check it out, isn't on a par or better with any OS-generated mapping :-)

I tried to fit Scafell Pike as well btw, but it fell in the stream and didn't dry out in time.

On a well known Walking Website you can click to find a route to the start of the walk. I then zoom in to 1.25000 move N.E.S or W until I have my route covered and then print and so have my map to take with me.
