Im planning an overnighter around Cadair Idris for later this month and am wondering if any of you know any good wildcamp spots on this range. I havent had much chance to study the map yet (was only given the location yesterday) but I think we intend to approach the summit from the east from Mynydd Gwerngraig (can be dropped off anywhere we like) and need to return to a campsite somewhere NW of Machynlleth (dammit i've lost the grid ref...)

The idea is usually to stay high for the night, so, do any of you know any good spots/decents for a bunch of walkers?

feel free to email if you don't want to publish your secret camping spots.
Cheers

Put it this way, you can leave the tent at home, theres a summit hut with a roof and everything!

We might not bother taking tents anyway, we haven't used them for any of our overnight stops in the summer so far. There will be a fair few of us, probably 8. We're not climbers, so I don't want any rock faces (the northern side is rocks right?). Can anybody reccommend any good places to play around, the best views etc...?

Depends what you mean by play around. If you're walking along the summit ridge/plateau the views to the north of Snowdonia are pretty good. There are cliffs to the north but there are ways down such as foxes path which goes down the scree slopes to Llyn y Gadair and Llyn Gafr. Cwm Cau is a lovely place, nice dramatic cliffs and a nice lake.

cheers guys
I'm still not entirely sure what we're gonna do. We're in an awkward position as we need to get back to a campsite quite a long way south of Cadair Idris by the end of the second day, im not sure how boring the woods south of Cadair are...

Llyn Cau is a possible site I guess, from OS23 it seems there is quite alot of water on the mountain so we should be fine.

thanks
