Cath

I got 3 hours kip the night before our attempt. It was a knackering 24 hours later before I hit the sack again and I went out like the proverbial light bulb. 2.5 hours later I was awake again and couldn't get back to sleep again. I woke mentally rewalking the route. It was 22:30 that night before I slept again.

My legs only ached for a couple of days and the only other side effect I had was that I lost the nails of my little toes. One within a week, the other lifted from the bed, only to get ripped off when I stubbed the little bugger on a door. Kinda smarted a bit :-O

Ouch! I got a distinctly black little toenail doing the Ennerdale Horshoe a few weeks ago but the nail still seems to be clinging on. I thought Saturday might make it drop off but not yet. Interesting that you also had sleep disturbance.

I do find the effects interesting. I am extra boring to be with at the moment, as when I'm not wittering on about the walk itself I'm boring on about my bodily functions and sensations. It's all fascinating stuff, honest! ;-)

Cath - firstly, well done - it's a great feeling to finish any challenge walk off, isn't it?!

Recovery can be really interesting and it seems to change as you get older - it took until the Thursday after our recent Lakeland 3000s for me to feel totally wiped out but the following Sunday I was more than ready for a jog over Pen y Ghent - I was quite disappointed I hadn't set out on the Y3P (less so when it turned out to be even more unbearably hot than last weekend!).

In the olden days it used to hit me the day after but not beyond that, back when hangovers only lasted a day...

Cheers Marcus. And even more well done to you for doing the Lakeland 3000s. Some daft sod has suggested that we try that next summer. Different kettle of fish though. Mind you, with a year to prepare you never know!

Ta, Alison. Actually, I should thank you. Your advice was one of the main things that made me decide to give it a go. So, thanks.
