Walking and Climbing

thinking of camping here at the end of august.can anyone tell me how far and hard would the walk to scafell pike and back be from that campsite? the reason i'm thinking of using that site is because its nearer to glenridding for my next walk up striding edge.i wanted to keep the the driving down to a minimum(been told the traffic in the lakes on a bank holiday is bad) another option was to leave main tent at langdale and walk to scafell pike and wild camp somwhere in the area.any help would be great

The route to Scafell Pike is about 12 miles in total there and back. A bit of a slog up Rossett Gill, The approach along Mickleden would be boring, if not for the views. Total ascent would be over 1,000 metres. The traffic in Ambleside will be crap (go early) and up and over "The Struggle" to Kirkstone Pass down to Glenridding, where, if you've not gone early you'll have another struggle finding a car park place!

I've done a variant as follows:

Old Dungeon Ghyll - Rossett Gill - Esk Hause - Scafell Pike - Great End - Esk Pike - Bowfell - Three Tarns - Old Dungeon Ghyll

Distance: 11.2 miles, (flat equivalent 20.4 miles)

Total Ascent 4,600 ft

Took me about 7.5 hours and the views are excellent.
