Scramble Route: Aonach Eagach Ridge
This week, arguably the best ridge traverse on mainland Britain, not technically hard, but very, very exposed. We bring you a full guide to Glencoe's legendary razor ridge :-)

This is a truly great route though not for the faint hearted. Choose a good day for your first attempt. The route is obvious if at times a little too obvious for comfort. If descending the Gulley don't get too far ahead of careless companions - loose rocks can build up quite a momentum!

It's a fantastic winter route too, paticularly on a clear day :-)

If anything it's even more spectacular in winter than summer, but certainly no place for novices in the snow. One advantage of the winter ascents is they tend to leave crampon marks in places for the summer ascenders to follow where route finding gets difficult ;-)

I presume this is the ridge on the other side of Glencoe from where 5 of us had a memorable ridge walk after heading down from the Winter Skills course. Don't think my skills would have been quite up to this one (understatement...), but the view of it in the snow was breathtaking - got a great pic of a herd of deer the size of ants!

Hi

AE - very easy summer route. Bit of an anti-climax from the thrill perspective - didn't think the exposure was too bad at all. Fantastic day out though - superb views.

V.different in winter - took me 8 hours inc' headtorch descent.

Nick, as you think its very easy you must do it with your eyes closed, or perhaps you don't look down! I can't agree about the exposure but I'm the cautious type. I agree it isn't difficult though, providing the conditions are good.

Hi

Funnily enough I am blind in my left eye (I contracted a bug - pseudonomas - which I have probably spelt wrong - in the Dominican Republic some years ago causing me to lose the sight in that eye).

I only use this eye to look down with!

Hi Nick,
Sorry about your eye. Not very funny. It sounds as though you make good use of though :-)
