TGO keeps telling us how they are tying to push the importance of lightweight, and yet these tables, which are an ideal format for championing lightweight, don't present the items in order of weight. It's not just the info that's important, it's how the info is presented.

Imagine if the Premier Division listed the clubs in alphabetical order and you had to scan down through the figures to see which club had most points.

Manufacturers should want to get to the top of the league. I mean "Directory".

John

Good point John.

Hopefully you'll like what we'll be doing from the February issue when we'll be introducing lightweight stuff in a big way. Hopefully it'll do more than ever to point folks in the direction of lightweight gear.

Phew! And good news about the lightweight push too, just started going lightweight myself and really excited about getting on the hills with half the weight!

A friend told me to click into this website - Just reading through the comments on the TGO gear edition. I agree with a lot of the comments - perhaps it could have been in addition to the regular magazine but certainly know a few people who are looking through it to get ideas of christmas pressies so well timed!
A little note on sponsorship - I do not have anything else to compare the gear that I was given for my walk with but I did spend a little time prior to the walk researching the equipment that I thought would be good to use and was lucky enough to receive the sponsorship which I did, in fact without it I could not have left home!
I was out in some shit weather this summer and was really impressed with how the equipment held up, particularly my tent. I was offered some other equipment but this is what I chose to go with and I hope it was an honest critique.

Hello Lorraine,

Many congratulations on your walk! I wish it could have been me! I enjoyed your write-up very much, and particuarly the kit reviews (being a bit of a kit obsessive). I was very interested to read about your good experience with the Laser.

Many congrat's once again!

<fx: envy, envy...>

Hi Lorraine

Saw you on this thread and thought I'd say hello. I just added a link the other day to your website from my links on the side of my Trekking Britain site at www.trekkingbritain.com

As PeeWiglet has just pointed out I think a lot of people are impressed with your thoughts on the Laserlite, they should give you them free for life as I reckon you've shifted quite a few of them. I love hearing peoples gear reviews after taking the gear on such adventures.

I wrote in to TGO to have a go at the guy who was picking at you a few months back and noticed in the letters section a few others had stuck up for you aswell. Well done on your adventure, it sounds amazing and I can't wait for the book.

P.S. It looks cold on that photo of you in the latest TGO, if ya know what I mean, hee hee sorry couldn't resist! ;-)

Yes, congratulations on your walk Lorraine. Good to see Summits supported you - excellent shop.

Oh and welcome to the madness that is OM - just ignore Jamie - I think he bought the wrong magazine! ;-)

Careful, though, Jamie - Lorraine spoke about the Laser, and not the Laserlite...

I've just read this issue and agree with many of the comments, I was hoping for a more indepth look at gear rather than a list.

One article I did enjoy which focused on gear appeared in Trail earlier this year. The one where Guy Procter (I think) hiked across the Lakes with just a 7kg pack. Prehaps TGO could do similar reviews, invesgating gear from various price ranges for example? Set a total weight limit and only use equipment from either budget, medium or high-end and see how it performs in real conditions, and what compromises could be made.

Just a thought

Trail must be very happy for once reading this.
Actually, I found the listings quite good, the prices and compact format are very handy when comparing between brands' similar items.
I would have liked a picture of every item though, but I suppose that would mean a 250 page issue.

Thanks, Steve, but Lorraine's is in a different league from mine! For bimblers, though, mine might ring a few bells :-)

Don't put yourself down Shirl! Enjoyed your Pennine Way one also but it doesn't seem to be there anymore.

Thanks, then :-) My family thought they were hilarious! <blush>

I think it is still there - have just been over to look. Bob's organised them into categories now. Both of mine are in the 'Backpacking Trips' category, and the Pennine Way one is the 4th one down i.e. "The whole Pennine Way in 19 days". I'm glad you enjoyed it :-))

Don't get me wrong the lists are very helpful, but it could have been more useful if a little about the products TGO had reviewed could be included, like a summary.

However, for all of those looking to trek across the surface of the sun any time soon you should look at the berghaus sleepingbag range. The zenith will keep you warm up to 2000 degrees C and weighs in at an amazing -18g. (Sorry, I know it must have taken ages to compile but its still funny)

OK so I'm behind the times, having only just read this months TGO. Not impressed with the lists either.

Philip - feel like being pedantic this morning. The temperature of the sun's surface is more like 5,500 degrees c - even so, it is a funny error and brightened up the lists!!
