The Naker Rambler was jailed for 3 months in Edinburgh - not directly for his naked ramble but for contempt when he refused to put clothes on for a relaterd court appearance. He only had 5 days walking left to go - which he'll now have to finish in February on his release.

I think, that he may have to change his appearance or go back to jail. If he appears naked in court to review his contempt he will be sent straight back. Am I right on this, someone who knows what they are talking about jump in now.

 Finish in February?
Brrrrr!
If he offends again in February there could well be an element of 'diminished responsibility'.
Can't see it standing up in court.
<Sorry, coat on, already leaving ...>

If I was him I'd wear clothes in prison...

Awwww, poor bloke, obviously judges have no sense of humour. What would we do without the great British ecentric? Jails are already suffering from overcrowding. Would it not have been easier to have transported the guy back down the road a hundred miles or so and have made him walk it again. A sort of penalty points system. Also, what happened to his two comanions? Are they going to offer him warmth and comfort in Fedruary when he resumes his walk? Maybe he will have to bow to wearing a little WOOLly hat, repeat, woolly, in the cold conditions he will face??!!

I wonder if he puts clothes on in a car park at the end of the day. . . .

 Beat me to it Colin

"I wonder if he puts clothes on in a car park at the end of the day. . . ."
PMSL!

I wonder if I could get an interview with him in Jail? It would be nice to hear his views on the great British judiciary system and what really seems to upset people.
As Brenda said what's happened to his chums? A guy and a girl wasn't it? We need stuff like this to show us what an 'ass' the law can be. Yes he's eccentric, but locking him up when there are slightly more important issues at hand these days, seems somewhat draconian.
Anyone got his number?
Draconian - yes - not to mention the mounting expense of continually locking him up. And I thought the prisons were supposed to be overcrowded, and the courts trying to deal with backlogs. Meanwhile, the real criminals are out on the streets. Waste of taxpayer's money chasing the Naked Rambler!

 Mad isn't it.

Respect due to people like this. How many others do we have who stick to their principles so strongly? Politicians could learn a lot from people like him. Yes I think he's nuts (no pun intended) but I don't think he's a pervert, or a threat (from what I've read) and I'm really suprised the Police could drag themselves away from their speding cameras long enough to catch him anyway! You used to have freedom of speech and movement in this country years ago. Now you can't park in lay-bys at night, or say anything which might cause offence to the people who throw a brick through your window, or do anything to do with money without goverment issued ID and bills in triplicate. I don't know about you lot, but this Christmas I just feel hemmed in. Buried at work by paper and people wanting more within the same deadlines, at home with countless insurance forms and all at the same time checking where I left my wallet full of credit cards. Perhaps a naked walking holiday is just what I need? No place to put paperwork and so the ultimate 'lightweight' experience. As innocent as the day I was born, until proven guilty up a hill in Scotland at least!
Why can't they just leave the poor guy alone?
Surely its his decision to ramble naked?
The problem is people like Michael S who see him and are offended by what they see. They complain to the police who have to take action on a complaint. Then Gough compunds his problems by insisting on appearing naked in court.
I'll bet he hasn't got a flabby, white, spotty botty!
IIRC, most of his previous trouble with the law happened north of the border. I don't think we're quite as tolerant up here as we like to think we are.
Slightly ironic as the popular world view of a Scotsman is someone who wears a "skirt" and has his dangly bits swinging in the breeze.
I like people like the NR... they help point out just what an absurdity the law often is. Also the 'sledgehammer to crack a nut' attempts being made to evict Brian Haw, the Parliament Square protester.
I should qualify my above comment...
It's a waste of SCOTTISH taxpayer's money!
