We've completely overhauled the OM member review system and we know there are bound to be some glitches, please use this thread to let us know what they are.
If you want to add a new product, btw, the link is at the bottom of the 'full list in each product category and we know it needs to be more prominent.
Thanks
Jon - OM editor person.

When I click on "full list", the grey band for each item is very wide and it means a lot of scrolling - could they be made narrower to get more to the inch, please?

Agree with JJ - that's the first thing I noticed! The cell size seems a bit excessive!
|
 |
One tip - I wondered if it was possible to find all by one manufacturer - we are researching P***** ATM - instead of by category - and the way IS:-
1. go to one item of choice 2. click on link at top "find out more about P*****" 3. then a link on the next page (under the too-wide grey bands) says "see all products from this brand" 4. - perfect

If you 'hide' the currently non-existent images, the cells will close right up, they're only that size to accommodate the pics, which haven't been uploaded yet, if that makes sense.
If you do hide images, the site remembers and keeps them hidden on all review system pages until you choose otherwise. Maybe the default should be set to hidden images though?

I cannot get crampons - if I enter the word into the search field it brings up a random grab-bag of vaguely related articles. I observed on the other thread that they are lumped into 'snow and ice' as a subcategory in 'climbing', which I think is wrong. I don't want to wade through reviews of ice screws and such just to find a few crampon reviews! I really don't think I'm being picky here, am I?

 > If you want to add a new product
Yes, and worded other than 'do you want to suggest a product not listed above', as this isn't clear that it's 'Add a review'. Very politely worded, but not clear in intent...
I'd suggest adding it to the tab menu on a category list, and, as primary means of access, prominently on the 'User Reviews' page.
I think the review entry process should also mirror the review search process, so the entry search tree would be:
Add Review Select Category Select Manufacturer <present list of manufacturers, and allow manufacturer to be added if not present> <present list of existing products by existing manufacturer> Add your review to an existing product Or add review of a new product
If adding a new product, an additional field could be provided to provide a factual description of the item (as we've discussed in the past); the rest of the review and subsequent reviews would add positive, negative, summary comments.

What criteria are used to select the first 5 products shown? In many categories, there are NO reviews for at least one or 2 "selected products", which makes it rather pointless!
|
 |
Crampons, point taken, erm, sorry, but you know what I mean.
Captn P, you're right, the add a new product thing has always been a bit of an afterthought and isn't clear enough.
Ta for the feedback, keep it coming :-)

As far as the products goes, I think I have the capability to control the criteria used, but as I haven't actually been shown how to use it, I'm not sure what they are at the moment. Watch this space.

Jon, it could be user error but somehow I managed to post my last review - Lowe Alpine Walkabout 35 - without getting the options to give grades (should be 4,5,5).

Whats happened to the reviews of products not already listed???
I submitted one about my Aspira Jacket (2004/5) model a while back and nowt so far...
Come on OM at least put these up when people have gone to the trouble of reviewing their kit.
I suspect I'm not alone on this either
|
 |
Dave - you're not alone - I've submitted among other products recently (over the past couple of months) Mountain Equipment Micro Grid top , Patagonia El Cap top, Lowe Alpine Micro Grid Sweater (not the zip top) - all currently available products...
I have had a couple of products added - a Berghaus Fleece and Hi-Tec boots but as to the others I don't know whether they'll be added or not.
I've been wearing a Macpac Vapour quite a bit of late, and was going to add that, but when you don't know whether or not your wasting your time...

Unfortunately there's a small backlog of products and reviews which we're in the process of clearing at the moment. The production guys in London are aware of the problem and I apologise for the delays in reviews appearing. I know it's frustrating when you've taken the time to submit a product and review and then it seems to take months to appear.
|
 |
Richard, I've added your review scores as above. I'd always thought you were prompted if you forgot to rate the product. I'll look into that.
|
 |
Thanks Jon (on both points). In case it helps I added the review on the screen where I was reading a review, and the ratings boxes didn't appear - I assumed (wrongly) that they'd come up after I'd submitted the description. Everything was fine when I submitted the first review of a product a few days ago...
Thanks again
Richard

Thanks Richard, must be some sort of glitch, I think I'd best go and investigate...
|
 |
Well, I can't replicate the problem, so either it's been fixed or you had a weird glitch. What browser / platform are you using?
|
 |
 Jon - IE 6.02 on Windows 2000
Thanks Richard
|
 |
Ahh thats the problem then ;)
Use something decent (he says from XP and IE at work :( )
