macpac celeste vs coleman adrenaline 2, opions please. i like the tent design, but the coleman is 3.9kg and therefore on the heavyish side but the macpac doesnt have a geodesic design and therefore doesnt look so stable.

Does anyone own these tents and could give me some opinions or anyone else give advice?

all help gratefully recieved

Macpac and coleman tend to serve different ends of the market. Coleman tend to be aimed at the cheaper end (hence the tent is on the heavish side) and more aimed at car campers (although they do a few tents you can backpack in).

Macpac tend to be higher spec and higher priced. Although the celeste isn't geodesic it will probably stand up to a fair amount of abuse as the new zealand climate is pretty harsh.

A well made and well designed non-geodesic tent can often perform as well or better than a cheap geodesic-look at all the people using hilleberg tunnels. It also makes them lightweight.

My tent (saunders) flaps a lot in the wind which means earplugs and a bit of faith are necessary, but it stays put. I'd only use a full geodesic if I was going to camp somewhere crazy-and then I'd probably want something wind tunnel tested like the force ten tents.

Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with coleman, but if the tents are the same price and you want to backpack with it, I'd go for the Macpac.

I would agree with everything SuperKat said.

I have noticed a few force ten 'vortex' tents ad very reduced prices. I have a cheap 140 ish priced geodesic tent that is very good. The guy points are in the right places. The quality is good and it has lasted me 5 years of camping in some extreme conditions. It has also blown flat during the night when I was miles from my car... Not so good but any tent will get flattened eventually.

I also have a Force Ten spindrift(big brother of the vortex) which is simply awesome. The quality is superb as is the construction and attention to detail.

It is also probably the most wind resistant tent you can buy for any money.

Good luck!

I've got a Celeste. Good amount of room for 2 people. Can be pitched inner first, fly first or altogether. Once the poles are in, they stay put. The only thing I wouldn't be too keen on trying would be using it if there was a chance of a large amount of snow, as the roof is flatish.
Can be setup easily enough by one person, but two makes it easier.

I've got a Celeste too and it is really practical in use (2 people) and seems to be bombproof. But I'd say it is quite heavy for walking with.

We've taken ours tramping and split between 2 we didn't find the weight much of an isssue really.

I had a celeste and it got burnt in my brother's VW combi.  I loved that tent.  I used it all over for 10 years and never had a problem with it - beautiful design, superb materials and workmanship.  If anyone wants to unload one second hand let me know.
