Anyone used Shoecare or Feetfirst? I've got some boots that are in desperate need of resoling, how good are these firms?

I used shoecare some time ago, did a good job, took a while though, make sure your confident that the rest of the boot will last long enough to justify it though, mine didn't

What sort of boots?

My climbing partner sent some rock shoes to FF for resoling and was less than impressed with the results.

My mother took her knackered walking boots to an outdoors shop in Leamington Spa (whose name unfortunately escapes me right now), and wherever they sent them to be resoled did a very impressive job. Sorry I can't be more precise (getting old) but maybe you could track them down.

They're Brashers Joan, though the soles look like rock boots! It's been a while since I've been into Leamington, there used to be a Leather shop (not that sort!) at the top of the parade which sold walking and riding boots and saddles. Unless.. maybe Parkinson's?

I've also got a pair of La Sportiva Makalus which leak like sieves, I've worked out that its the front lacing eyelets causing the problem. I intend to write to La Sportiva if I can find their UK distributor (the boots are 18 months old). I'm not that hopeful about getting a positive response from them, so any ideas on how to fix the problem? Maybe superglue around the eyelets?

I checked with ma and the shop is Lockwoods on Rugby Road. Her boots are Brashers too, so with any luck they should be able to help you. Maybe they would have some suggestions for your other problem too, though superglue sounds like a good bet. Or you might try wetsuit repair glue, which dries flexible and rubbery, so would be less likely to crack. Not sure if Lockwoods would stock it, but there's a shop in Warwick on the road to Leamington, called Escape2 (I think) and they sell paddling gear so should have it.

Or even silicon sealant - more easily available than diving stuff.

Thanks, of course blooming Lockwoods! (only been in the shop a few hundred times). Slaps head. I never think of it as IN Leamington (Escape2 is in Warwick just further down the road and you're right they do canoey stuff). The reason I thought about superglue is that the eyelets are not loose and the glue/sealant would have to soak into the nubuc around them.

I've just used some "freesole urethane formula shoe repair" on my trusty old Scarpa boots cos they were starting to leak a bit where the leather meets the rand (several trips to Skye has taken it's toll), brilliant stuff, sets harder than silicone, sticks like u-no-wot to a thingy, flexible enough not to crack, "does exactly what it says on the tube" (not cheap though)

Got any contact details? Sounds like a top company! I'm sure the shop I work at could use their support!

All being well I should get to Altberg this weekend - any more stuff on this Pete? I want gid bits (ie good boots) and it really is tough finding them - I hope Altberg are up to it?
