Which filter
MSR or Katadyn?

I'll be buying a water filter this month but cannot decide which to buy. I have narrowed it down to two, the MSR Miniworks and the Katadyn Mini.

The reviews on this site are good for both. The katadyn is less than half the weight of the msr, the ceramic filter lasts much longer and its a few quid cheaper. This would appear then to be the right choice but I'm wondering if the MSR has some advantage over the Katadyn that may explain its higher price. I would much rather carry something heavier and a little pricier if its more reliable and easier to fix when out and about.

I would be grateful for any thoughts or advice regarding this. Its after a lot of consideration that I have decided to buy a water filter so thanks but please no advising me that I don't need one.

Cheers

Personally I'm going for the MSR Sweetwater as it removes more than I am likely to encounter on my trip and lasts long enough.

I don't normally recommend trail but their gear listing in the last issue was very helpful on the subject with details of what removes what etc, weights and prices.

The new issue will be out later this week so if you want to have a look you'll need to get your skates on to get a copy.
