Does anyone know if the Primus Footrest for Gas Stoves fits Coleman cartridges properly?

Or is a cable-tie and a couple of tent pegs a better option anyway?

primus and coalman canisters have the same size bases so it should fit just fine, but go-system gas canisters are a little smaller.

(i've just compared base sizes on 220g canisters)

MSR cylinders are smaller too. The small ones fit neatly inside the MSR titanium kettle but the larger ones annoyingly don't.

I use a small circle of closed cell foam, with an aluminium foil top as a base. A windscreen attaches to this by velcro, giving a stable base and a non-blowing away windscreen.
Total weight 1.8oz, which may well be less than the Primus jobbie.

Circle cut out of old Karrimat, approx same diameter as pot that will be used with the stove.

Top of foam circle covered with aluminium foil (probably not needed, but it seemed like a good idea at the time).

The edge of the foam circle (about 10mm high) have a strip of velcro stuck around it.

Foil windscreen (a la MSR, but taller to reach the pot on top of the gas stove) has matching strip of velcro stuck to its bottom edge. NB: windscreen does not completely surround the top, but has a 2-3" opening.

Put foam disc on ground, put stove on top, place foil windsceen around, attached with the velcro.

As well as more efficient cooking with a windscreen, this also has the advantage of warming the cannister, allowing the use of gas stove into freezing conditions - but beware that stove manufacturers will panic at the thought of a windsceen! All that is needed is to watch the temperature of the gas cyclinder - if you can rest a finger on it, it's not too hot.

i just use tent pegs so that the hook is inverted and grips the edge of the cannister. As i have always got 3/4 extra pegs in my bag it works well for me.

There were no Coleman cartridges in the shop to try it with but I risked financial security to buy it anyway.

It fits the Coleman 250 fine but not the 100s. Bit of a shame because I only wanted it for the 100s, 250s being big and stable enough on their own.

I'll just have to keep an eye on it for that morning cup of tea in the porch.

PS - the tent peg idea won't work in the porch for me because I have a footprint thingo.

I find it a bit surprising that it won't fit a small Coleman cannister!

I can get it to hold a 100 if I wedge the wee bag the stove lives in into the extra space.

I just assumed they were the same size as all the other manufactures. They certainly *look* very similar in size.

One of these is on the way anyway. It worked fine with Coleman 100s before I ripped it to bits in my usual ham-fisted manner. The Primus one is better put together though.
