I've cleaned them, dried them, and given the insides and the footbeds a spray with Lamisil just in case. I'll be storing them somewhere cool, but do I need to keep them ultra-dry (i.e. boxed with dessicant sachets) or will that dry out the leather too much? They're Scarpa Freney Pros, leather and reversed leather on the outside, leather-lined, no membrane.
Not sure if this is any use to you. I've got my Scarpa Manta in the loft stored in the original box they came in with no dessicant sachets. I know the loft gets a bit warm in summer but it's never damp, even in winter. All my boots are up in the loft and I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
I cleaned and packed mine away both pairs i have to add, one totally synthetic material and one pair of full leathers ASC alpine 78's. laces are out and inside the boot ( any creepys will nest in the lace you see ) and they are just placed at the back of the boot rack.
I will wear the leathers two or three times for walking into town just to keep the leather supple and the synthetics will be fine (Salomon summit 4's)
all winter bags have now been proffesionally cleaned ( £24 at my local launderama for both. inc tumble dry to fix the re-proofer, then 1 day hung at home ) now in storage till it gets chilly again.
gloves hats and all other winter clothing has been re-proofed and is now all stuffed in 2 K'moor rucksacks.
£36 worth of nikwax products but its pays in the long run.
Anyone had a problem keeping their feet on a light hike on a beautiful day? Any damp or wet rocks and My V Lite hiking boots have no grip. I,ve finished up bottom down in a beck and crossed stepping stones like an old granny. My old worn out Millets boots had better grip. What can I do about it? I wouldn't risk my neck in them anywhere even slightly challenging. I aked if they had good grip when I bought them and was told in the Skipton shop that they were great, new boot technology. I'm disappointed and out of pocket!
My winter boots are living on the "winter" shelf of the kit shed. I always store them there, and never have any problems with damp, pests, or anything.
