Mountain Equipment Torres XT/2XT/3XT at £100/£125/£150 respectively. They're not gonna get much cheaper than that- that's a lot of tent for the money!

Sure I read somewhere that theres a design fault on these tents and thats why they are being sold off cheap everywhere?

The design fault as i understand it was on the seam sealant...or rather the lack of. All the Torres range went back to ME and had the seams sealed. ME's policy is that they are then classed as seconds and that reflects the price now.

ME reworked all the tents and they are now upto standard but are still regarded as "seconds".

These are a steal at that price.

Drew ( not an ME plant just a tent spod!!)

mine (3xt) just arrived yesterday, havn't got many left now (and no 2xts). Great service. havn't had a chance to put it up though as every time i go to unroll and put it up in the garden, next door's cat comes over to lie on it! don't really weant to get it ruined just after buying it!

Purchased mine on ebay for £130, pitched it in the garden and slept in it last night as rain was forecast and thought the best time to try it out before leaving ebay feedback. Had to make a run for it around 1am as the tent leaked like a sieve and i woke up soaked!

The flysheet seems more showerproof the rain proof and im wondering if reproofing will make the difference or will i just be throwing good money after bad?

Contact the ebay seller for a refund as its not fit for purpose see Sale of Goods Act

Unless the seller has said in the description that it leaked you are entitled a refund.

Ok, quick update;

Received email back from seller, he gave me his telephone number to discuss the issue (good sign i thought).

I explained what had occured and without me having to negociate he very fairly offered to post me a replacement fly sheet along with a couple of bottles of sealant. He further assured me that if i were still unsatisfied he would refund me the cost of the tent.

In regards to Rockys'question, it was apparent on first inspection that the exterior of the fly sheet had been modified or at least extra glue applied at 6 points during the recall by ME. However, the leaks didnt appear to be coming from the seams, rather from the fly sheet nylon itself.

To be continued.....

PS. thanks for your comments so far

well done! we just need to remember that we still have rights as a consumer when buying on ebay.It sounds as if you brought from a trader who wants happy customers.

Update (albeit belated)

As promised, the following monday morning i received a replacement flysheet but not just a flysheet but an inner tent too! When i phoned to say it had arrived i asked what address i should return the original faulty item. He told me not to bother and that i was welcome to keep them as spares. Not only that, he also sent me a bottle of goretex waterproofing spray by means of a further good will gesture (will use that on my goretex bivi bag - not the torres tent).

As far as performance of the replacement flysheet, there hasnt been such a severe downpour as mentioned before but the replacement seems a much tighter fit and the fabric looks brand new - unlike the one originally sent.

If anyones interested, the guys ebay shop is called mountain .... er ... mountain something or other (uk selling based up north , yorkshire i think)
