Mapping software and - umm - Linux
Tried the techy sites; thought I'd try an outdoor one

Sorry for posting a blatantly techy question on an outdoor site, but I know there are some Linux types out there (I don't post much but I do read the boards) and they may be able to help:

My home PCs run on Linux (suse 10) only. I would like to be able to access Anquest / Memory Map stuff. Has anyone tried these with WINE? If so, what version? What result!

Cheers

Graeme

I've never bothered, Graeme. I just boot into windows when I want Memory Map.

I assume you're having no luck?

Not brilliantly easy when you don't have a M$ boot ...

Ugh, wine, thats always been more effort than its worth for me, used it successfully before?

I have a 2nd PC that dual boots M$ and Linux.

I had no joy at all with Tracklogs in WINE.

I'd switch to Linux totally if i could use my mapping software on there and Dreamweaver (especially now they seem to want us to register with this genuine *advantage* rubbish. Especially when you have an original version it decides to hassle you about).

Anyone had luck converting the map files and runing them on Linux? there must be some linux program that takes routes from a gps and shows them over scanned maps???

Cheers people.

I went Linux-only when I built the PC from scratch (OK, from components) and failed to find a reason to pay Microsoft for doing so. I've never really got my head round WINE and, frankly, never saw the reason to try till I thought of mapping software. I actually thought it was unlikely to work, but thought it was worth a query.

Any other suggestions welcome!
