Boots for mountain and jungle?

I am spending a month or so in Peru next year and am looking to get a pair of boots as soon as possible in order to wear them in. As I will be spending time in the jungle and also in the mountains, I would like to find a boot that is suitable for both, rather than carry round a spare set. Due to at least two week trekking I will be doing I need them to be comfortable and fairly hard wearing. I am not looking to spend more than £150 on them.

Has anybody found this to be an issue or got any suggestions?

Thanks.

Id probably advise you to avoid waterproof membranes for this. If you're in the jungle it'll be so humid they wont breathe at all, and also if water gets on the inside of your boots- which I guess it probably will, it wont be able to get out ever.

So here's a tentative vote towards a leather boot, though I know there are people on here who have actually been to similar places so can offer much better advice than I can.

OK thanks, i was looking at Meindls - the Peru ones and the unlined Borneo ones, and they seem to be the sort of thing that I'm looking for, but i was interested in hearing what more experienced people had to say hehe. Cheers.

Im not "more experienced" so don't take my advice as given. I just work in outdoor retail and we tend to drive people away from membranes in the jungle- imagine putting your feet in a bath of warm water for a week...

well i can certainly suggest a pair of US military issue jungle boots, they do exactly what they say on the box and they are good for desert too.

This is from experience and they are cheap and very tough too.

OK thanks guys - will take a look at unlined leather boots - I realise Gore-tex or similar is a no-no! I think il gave the 'feet in warm water for a week' experiment a miss! CM - do you know of anywhere you can try the US military jungle boots on to give them a try - i dont think many outdoor shops stock them.

Thanks!
