Right then, you P***** wearers out there!
These Fuera trousers.....
Are they any better, really, than a pair of Montane Terra's?
If they get wet, as in soaked through, how long do they take to dry?
I'm assuming they are a bit more insulated than the Terra's. True or false?
Too hot for summer? I mean without unzipping the legs vents from top to bottom.
Are they any good?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated
Thanks

Don't know if it's any help, Oot, but I got caught in a squall on an exposed section of the SW coast path back in November in Terras and a Fuera top. The terras had been treated with TX-direct but still wetted out pretty quickly. The Fuera kept me lovely and dry on top. The terras did dry out very quickly though.

If the trousers are anything like the smock then they would dry quickly and keep out a fairly hefty shower. Sadly I can't use them as Paramo, in their wisdom, only do them in 31.5" inside leg. They do the Cascadas in a longer leg which fit really well. This is the only fault I have managed to find with Paramo to date!

Not got the Fuera trousers Oot, but I don't see that they can be too hot for summer or any more insulated than Terras - they're not the Paramo trousers with the pump liner, just a single layer windproof fabric (and I think some reinforcement on the seat/knees). I did try them on in the past but I found some of the stitching on the knee rubbed as I walked so I didn't buy them. I've got a pair of Terra zip-offs that are pretty good but my favourites for a few years now are the Mountain Hardwear trousers - Pack Pants, Convertible Pack Pants and Lite Pack Pants, all excellent. The Fuera smock though, if it's kept decently proofed, does turn a good shower.

Get a pair of Montane Stretch Terra pants. Made from Pertex Equilibrium fabric. Lovely soft feel, nice and stretchy and light. Dry really quickly.
Unless you are a pensioner with really bad fashion sense you really don't want to be seen outdoors wearing Paramo. They're fine for kicking around the nursing home in but that's about it.

Hmm, surely stretch trousers can be just as big a fashion crime on some folk, eh Harry?! ;O)
Actually I tried Stretch Terras too recently and found they were another 'nearly good' design spoilt by some scratchy seams in silly places over the knee. On that occasion I ended up with Lowe Alpine Paradigm softshell trousers which have proved excellent for winter mountain biking and will probably see some use for climbing and scrambling, but may be too hot for summer walking.

The Fuera trews, if looked after (i.e. as clean as you would any walking trouser, plus a proof every three washes) seem to repel water quite well. In summer, i dont bother with overtrousers (hate em) and take these, even on multiday trips. They migh be too hot only in the type of weather where you'd want to wear shorts. As i don't like shorts, these have a full length zip on the side to help me cool.
As far as insulation goes, i felt they were a bit cold for a day walk (low level) on New Year's Day, so they're not that warm.
Oh and Harry, it's a shame that you only wear them in the nursing home, you really ought to get out more ;-p

 Cheers guys.
I wear Terra's anyway, and love them, but I was just wondering about the differences between the two. I was hoping that the Fuera's might be more water resistant, but they don't really seem to have any advantages over the Terra's, so I'll probably not bother.
Thanks again.

I've been wearing Terra for years and I've always liked them. They can do for summer or winter with leggings underneath. The only thing that annoys me is the lack of stretch, so I found that I wore my haglofs rabot flex pants more and more when I actually got out last year, two big thigh pockets as well. I really wish they would redo the terra with the same design in a stretch fabric with a patch pocket on the the leg for a map etc

I specifically use the Fuera trousers as summer wear - they are the 'coolest' trousers I have, and provide virtually no additional insulation apart from being a windproof layer.
I find that in heavy/prolonged rain they wet out and let water through quite a bit quicker than the Fuera smock - I think because of the constant 'rubbing/tighness' around the leg whilst walking (which does not occur as much with a top). I also found that once they start to let a little water through, wicking socks do a really good job of transfering this into my shoes :)
I am not sure if the effect would be the same with other trousers, as I would always either have put overtrousers on, or would be so wet in general as to not notice my feet specifically.
The trousers dry out very quickly though, once it stops - shame the socks don't!

I have a pair of terras and some terra converts, think they are fantastic, especially in the summer, in the winter if its bad weather i just wear some overtrousers or my rohan superstriders.

That's exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you!

The Fuera troo's are too short for me so I ended up going for Montane Featherlites and bloody good they are too.
Disnae really help you that much tho', does it? :o)

Stick with the Terras. Thye are fabulous. The Fuera jacket is great but then this is something else entirely!
