Sometime last year Trail had a bothy bag offer for new subscribers. i rang emap (publishers) and said my longstanding regular subscription was worth a little loyalty bonus and I would like one please. Their response was I could have one if I cancelled my suscription and took out another which just seemed like a load of faff.
This year they're doing it again (ME 2 man bothy). remember somewhere on this forum seeing something about Trail changing their policy so rang emap again and explained this to a very nice man who said he would post one out to me. 5 days later here it is !!
So you see: Trail can get it right. All you regular subscibers get phoning. LOL

any idea what the 'offer' is for new subs in March? the previous thread seemed to imply it was something groovy.....but good on 'em anyway for the service.

This is all I can find on the Trail website:

"Get Trail at a discount
We thought we'd try a different kind of offer!

Subscribe to Trail by monthly direct debit and you have complete control. No large payment upfront, so you can give Trail a trial and if you don't like it just cancel your direct debit at anytime."

Confusingly it is then followed by this rider:
"Monthly Direct Debit
£3.00

** Direct Debit purchases have to be bought individually and minimum subscription term is 12 months. Your basket contents will be kept safe for you while you set up your Direct Debit."

I don't think I'll bother!

Damn! I need a 2 man bothy bag too.

Did the same as Clive about 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for mine. Looks like I'll be phoning them again tomorrow.

The stormshelters/bothy bag are in stock, so I can't see why there would be any kind of problem, but it does say please wait up to 28 days for your gift.

Frederico - I do take your point but the minimum term 12 months section that you read is built into our system and very hard to take out. You can cancel a discounted monthly dd at any time.

It is unfortunate that on occasions we run out of stock of a FREE gift, but we do everything in our power to get that item again, or if that is impossible we offer an alternative.

I also try not to limit offers, as I think that isn't really fair.

I don't want to bash Trail. I've been a happy reader, and subscriber, for years. But the free gifts delay is gettting a bit trying.

I renewed my sub in December and was looking forward to a pair of Extremities gloves. Couple of weeks before Xmas I was promised them by Xmas.

Called subs hotline tonight, still waiting.
Got to wait at least another 14 days. Seems a bit long to me.

Worse thing is, in the meantime I've had to buy some gloves. Ah well, they can always go on Ebay when/if they turn up.

Rich

I renewed my sub in November (I think), done it online and my free gift was a Sigg bottle. I was quite chuffed with this until I got Trail the following month and saw they were offering bothy bags. I'd rather have had 1 of them.

Seems as though the change of policy hasn't been passed on to all members of staff at emap, my mate was told to cancel his subscription if he wanted the bothy bag. As for mine, today is 4 weeks (28days) since it was ordered so I phoned up after the postie didn't shove it through the letterbox. Seems it's 28 working days so we'll see if it arrives by 16th Feb.

Its here!!! Came in the post this morning almost 4 months after original order. Did receive a letter to say they were due by the end of the month. Tried it in the sitting room as soon as I got it out the packaging but it was a bit floppy with just me in it :-) though one of the cats joined me he didn't improve things :-) Hoping not to use it in a fortnight when I'm up at Glencoe.

Had a slightly speedier delivery of my bothy than you McDuck! Got it a few weeks back - and pretty sure I ordered sometime in Feb! Lovely job - thanks emap/trail subs people.

Anyway - anyone seen this months subscription offer? Sekonda watches (hmmmm), could next months be a nice TRAIL pendant in 14ct gold from H. Samuel?

Not had any luck at all with my Trail freebies. Took out a subscription last year with an offer of four Lake District maps, which never turned up. When I got in touch with them about it they seemed totally confused and finally offered me a petzl e-lite instead, which I accepted. That never turned up either and instead I got a package containing a Trail rucksack cover and Buff, which are useless to me. I've had a couple of similar experiences in the past with Trail, but this is by far the worst.
