Hi, I have a Rab VR Smock which seems to be worn every trip these days but now it's starting to pong a bit. Noticed that Rab recommend specialist clean. Has anyone washed one at home sucessfully and if so how did you do it? Any help appreciated as I don't fancy paying for 3rd party cleaning.

Cheers .

To quote Rab :
Carefully hand or machine wash with a soap solution, NOT DETERGENT.
You may tumble dry your garment in a dryer or lightly iron to rejuvenate the DWR finish.

i have the rab generator and it says the same but i will just hand wash it in grannies snowflakes gently then maybe give it another dwr finnish.but dont take my advice as i am no expert.the only problem i see is making sure the primaloft does not rip from the stitching when wet and heavy so i'll treat it with the same care i would a sleeping bag when washing.

I've got the Rab VR Trousers, which also recommend specialist clean on the label.

Being trousers they get muddy on every outing. It would be hugely impractical to have them professionally cleaned every week.

I've washed them after every walk in Granny's soap flakes (in the machine at 30 degrees, on the silk wash). So far it's not been a problem and last time it rained the DWR was still working without needing to be reproofed.

I TechWashed, TX-Directed then tumbled my VR Climb jacket, it looks as good as new, the lining still wicks and the DWR is better than when I bought it.

Don't you have to use the spray-on TX-Direct as the wash in one will stop the liner wicking??

I tried the spray-on, GR, it works it's way through the seams and zips, then wicks all over the liner anyway, so I might as well have used wash-in anyway. Besides, the washing machine is just so much easier.

For years i have washed in Tech wash, then sprayed with TX Direct spray and it works well. When spraying my jackets I stick a football in the hood which helps get a more even spray....

I spoke to rab a few week ago and they recommended washing at low temp in soap flakes. If the DWR is going then re-apply with a spray just to the outside otherwise the pile inside would get affected and wouldn't wick as well.

Nice one , thanks for the advice. I'll give it a go.
