I have a Geko 201 but I cannot find out how to reset the total odometer to zero. The trip odometer is easy to reset, but6 i canot find anything in the manual or by playing with the various options to reset the total to zero. Any suggestions

1 Go to Trip Computer Page 2 Press OK 3 Press up/down buttons to highlight Reset Trip Data 4 Press OK
This resets all trip data except Max Speed which has to be done separately on the Trip Odometer page using the method outlined above.

I thought that too Hugh, but I checked it last night and it doesn't reset the Odometer reading (Trip Odometer yes, Odometer no). I hadn't realised because Odometer isn't a field I normally have displayed, but if you use the Change Fields option in the same menu you're talking about, you'll see that the Odometer field retains its value despite the use of Reset Trip Data.
I haven't found a way of doing what Cliff is asking either, so if anyone does solve it I'm now curious to know too!

I'm not very clever with computer and similar electronic gadgets and misunderstood Cliff's question.
I have one of the first models of the Gecko 201. You both seem to have a cumulative odometer by which I suppose that, for example, the 201 can record a daily mileage which you can access whenever you wish rather in the manner of the log found on some multifunction watches.
My Gecko appears either not to have this function or I have no idea how to access it. Please advise because this is something I should like to be able to use.
Have you contacted Garmin? I have found that the company responds helpfully to emails.
Thanks!
Hugh

I have the answer to my own question But I have not tried it yet! I emailed Garmin over a week ago but got no reply so I phoned them from work and the guy on technical support said "hold down the OK and Page button silmutaneously whilst you turn on the unit. It will display an option to delete everything" I assume by this it means a factory reset and so user details routes etc will also be lost. I will try it when I have time to spare just in case it causes a disaster.

Thanks for that Cliff. I'll back-up the current contents of my unit and give it a go too.
Hugh, I've had a Geko 201 since they first came out and although my current one is a replacement it seems identical, so I'd be surprised if yours doesn't have an Odometer for the overal total covered.
On the Trip Computer page (the one that displays 4 fields of information - by default Trip Odom, Maa Speed, Moving Avg and Time Moving): Press OK Scroll to 'Change Fields' Press OK 'Temp Odom' is now probably highlighted - scroll up or down to highlight which of the four fields you wish to replace with different information Press OK - a drop down list of available fields appears Scroll up or down that list to highlight the desired field - Odometer is in the list Press OK Scroll to another field if you wish to change another one, else Press Page to finish
If you've changed a few fields and want to get back to the originals then the main menu on that page offers a Restore Defaults option.
Hope I've managed to express that clearly. Good luck!

Cor I've done 781.59 Km using my 201. Thanks Cliff I've not seen that field before.

1186.44 Km for me.....who will get the high score ;-)

Only 774.06km for me, but then this unit was a brand new replacement in September last year (Garmin provided it after my old one detached itself from its handlebar mount and smashed on the road!). I dread to think what the original one had clocked up, but I never thought to look....

Matt: Many thanks for advising me how to access the cumulative odometer. And thanks to Cliff for discovering how to reset it to zero. I have done this and found, as Matt surmised, that the computer goes back to the factory settings. This means that we, in Britain, have to reset the units data page, which is a pain.
I am disappointed that the odometer is cumulative rather than a log as I had hoped. The only time that I keep my Gecko permanently switched on is when I am measuring the length of a walk that I shall be leading. I find that there is generally a 10 per cent difference between a route, however carefully measured on the map with an opisometer, and the distance recorded on the ground on the Gecko. Believe it or not, many of my clients can tell by their fatigue level whether I have calculated the distance accurately. 'Are you sure, Hugh, that this walk is only nine miles?'
I have found this to be a very useful thread so thanks to everyone who has contributed.
