Hi folks, I'm after a pair of lightweight boots for summer walking and backpacking, and would like to try some of the montrail range for size and fit, especially the Stratos and Namche models.

Anyone here know anywhere in Yorkshire selling such beasties, or have any experience of them?

ptc* posted this link recently.

The Namches are fantastic, I'll be wearing then all summer. I've backpacked, ran and scrambled in them, When your feet get wet thay drain right away.
I originally had to get them special order, but since then I've since bullied my mate into listing them here. There's proper reviews as well.
The Stratos are discontinued I believe, but these folks have them in their shop but not on their website.
Montrails are the business.

I answered this on your other thread requesting this info.

Try Nevisport in Leeds; they certainly used to sell them.

I realise that my links are geograghically unhelpful, but there are lots here as well.

Cheers all, the Namches are beginning to sound like my kind of shoe! Never having worn montrail shoes before, do they size up much the same as any other, or do they run smaller, or larger, for any given size?

NPC, yes, you did mention them on the other thread; I haven't been anywhere near a PC today until now, so hadn't seen it. My apologies, and thanx.

Np Mick. I hope you don't have Achilles tendon probs though as Montrails tend to have an exaggerated heel-thing high up at the back and I can't wear them :(

As NPC says; I've got a pair of Storms with the achilles thing, it's designed to hold the foot in the shoe. Or sever your foot, it feels like.
None of the current models I've tried have that effect on me, but all feet are different, so seek out a shop to try.
Size wise, the Namches and Ventanas come up proper size as do the Continental Divides and the Hardrocks, the Highlanders are a half size small, so I go up a half size.
Their boots seem to be a half size big and narrow, so even if I go down a half size they don't fit.
They use an awful lot of different lasts.
Have I just helped or confused?

It's all helpful stuff, but I'm wondering where I'll be able to find a shop which sells Namches to try on! The only place that I can find selling them at the mo is that fast and light website, but I suppose I could always send them back if they don't fit my feet.

Aye, as far as we're aware there's only two people in the UK have a pair of Namches, and I'm one of them. Everybody was scared to get them in as they're a bit left field.
I look as if I'm trying to drum up business for may mate if I say go and order them :o0
So being impartial, mail order footear is such a gamble, I'd try Montrails on in a shop first.

Mick w, hope you find somewhere to try on some Montrails.

I had a similar experience when I was trying to track down a pair of the cTc boot. I had the shoe and loved it but wanted the GTX boot so I didn't have to go into heavier boots for wetter conditions. The only place I found them was in Footprints in Glasgow. They have the usual problems of a GTX lined boot (ie can get a bit hot) but other than that they are the mutt's nuts.

If you find that the general Montrail fit suits your feet I'd risk ordering from Fast&Light

Hi Mick
I bought a pair of Montrails from the states a few years back as I struggle to get boots to fit my small feet. The gamble paid off as they fitted fine. I will certainly think about buying the Namches now I know there is somewhere in Scotland selling them.

As the kids are saying: Montrails are da bomb!

For anyone considering messing about with a pair of Innov8s I would say, try some Montrails first and give your feet a break.

So, if my feet are normally a UK 10, I'd be ok getting a pair of size 10 Namches? I'll just have to ring F&L first, make sure they'll refund if they don't suit...

Hi Mick w.
Tell me what F&L say about refunds.I fancy a pair.I have got a fairly broad foot and usually go for 10/12 in the Salomon XAPro

Hi Mick,

I'd got for a 1/2 size bigger if i were you.

Just bought some reduced Stratos'from Wildtrak in Newcastle - what a fantastic pair of boots!!!! But the 1/2 size larger felt alot more comfy with walking socks than my normal size.

Just to contradict myself though - my hardrocks are a normal size but then again i don't wear thick socks in 'em.

Take a look lower down the gear forum for a discussion about Montrails:

Nearest to Yorkshire I found was at Hathersage in the 'Outdoor' store which had Stratos (very few left in the UK as the design has been recalled pending launch of a new replacement) and a few others.

Cheers all, and where be Hathersage? I haven't got my road atlas handy!

I was thinking of fairly normal socks with the Namches, in the interests of cool summer footwear, so I will probably go for the normal shoe size. In 'Beef Jerky'!

Hi JasonT,
How much were the Stratos I will call in Wildtrak tomorrow
