Did anyone see the recent edition of Countryfile, which focused on Iceland ?

I watched it an was mesmerised by the natural beauty of the place - the mountains, the sea and of course the geo-thermal features and volcanic landscape.

Well I was having a look for flights thinking it would be quite expensive to get there and then I found this. Booked a return flight in July for 90 pounds.

I was in Iceland this year, found it obscenely expensive and I didn't see one piece of ice! On the upside, the women are just unreal, even the mingers are nice, and puffin tastes fantastic! The 24 hour daylight was bizarre and the people talk funny.

Went to Iceland for a long weekend last year - awesome place and would love to go back. I'm sure you'll love it.

Colonel, you ate a little bird, or is that a spelling mistake?

I went to Iceland the other week and found the food remarkably cheap.
I got a leg of lamb for £4-99 and a frozen cheesecake.
And if you spend £20 they deliver it for free.

I adore Iceland and can't wait to get back there next year, travelling via the Faroe Islands. I stayed in Reykjavik youth hostel last summer and can highly recommend it, not least because it's right next to one of the larger thermal baths. The Blue Lagoon is worth a visit despite being a tourist trap, and for guided treks give these people a call:

If you're staying in Reykjavik for longer than 24 hours get hold of a tourist travel pass as it really will save you a small fortune, and yes whilst Iceland is expensive you can buy reasonaby priced food in supermarkets and self cater.

The Reyjkavik Grapeline is worth reading as it lists any special events and gigs that may be taking place - it'll also give you an idea of what the Icelandic sense of humour is like!

Yes, I did eat a little bird, and yes, it cost the earth. And yes, the next day I went on a whale/puffin tour and saw millions of puffins but not one whale

Won't be going after all...B.A have stopped their service to Reykjavik and cancelled my flight. Waaaaaaaaaaa!

Have to find somewhere else to go now - thinking about Austria, was there 2 years ago and had a great time. And easyjet now fly to Innsbruck.

Would still like to go to Iceland someday though.

Have you tried www.icelandexpress.com they seem to have some reasonable prices.

Icelandair regularly seem to have special deals for £99 return. I'm on their email list, but I can't see on their web site see how you get on to the list "from new".

If you go, I'd second Hayley's comments: stay in hostels (there's 25 of them) and make your own meals - it's not too expensive then.

I've never really fancied Kerry Catona that much myself.
