Hi All

I have been to Mull every year for the last four and do so every December now for a few days or sometimes a week. However in the past I've been fortunate enough to have the finances to stay in either B&B or Self Catering. This year I can just about afford the petrol to Oban and the ferry but want to camp on Mull instead of the expensive alternatives.

Does anyone know of any sites that are officially open in the winter? Don't need much other than a hot shower and toilets. Ta

I'd have thought the Craignure site would be open as it has the semi-permanent caravans and 'shielings':-

The site near Tobermory I'm not sure about:-

Tobermory campsite

Both are perfectly adequate. The usual wild camping rules apply - also there is 'official' wild camping at Calgary Bay - toilets but no shower.

If we could nip in somewhere and get a hot shower then we'd probably do the wild camping but after driving hundreds of miles I want a shower and I sweat like a testicle too and if we're gonna be going walking i'll definitely be wanting a hot shower as will the missus who I don't think will go unless we got hot showers, her her tends to get a bit Amy Winehouse after a wild camp!

The Craignure site says its closes for campers on 5th Nov, but I'll phone them anyway and see what they say. And the Tobermory site is only open until end of October. Cheap B&B it may well have to be or wild camping if I can convince the missus!

How about on the machair at Uisken south of Bunessan?  I stayed there in July once and it felt like December. Gobsmackingly beautiful though.

Part Timer, You got some great pictures there.

There is a large rock surrounded by some rubble across the road from the cottage. Suppossedly the rubble was once the home of a couple of newly weds, who both died when the rock fell. Its a lovely part of the island and right at the foot of Ben More.
