Hi,

I tried my friends binoculars today and they were fantastic, but very old and didn't have a name stamped on them.

So I am looking for a simular monocular with 8 x 30  and 75 / 70?(cant remember) field.

Has anyone got any recomendations?

Thanks for your surgestions.

I have a pair of 8x21 Pentax UCF-mini binoculars that I love. However, when I want to carry something smaller, I have a little Helios 8x21 folding monocular. It's cheap and cheerful at about £14. They do an 8x25 version, too, which is more expensive.

I got the Helios to replace an ancient British made 8x21 monocular that suffered from a cracked prism. Shame, because it was otherwise excellent.

I use a Zeiss 6x18 which has brilliant optics, but costs about 125 quids...my mate has a similar one, it cost 10 quid....and the optics are pretty damned good too...

I have one of these tucked in my waistbelt pocket, very good quality. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luger-MM-Monocular-Spotting-Scope/dp/B000PWKBUW

I have a 10X25 monocular and it is great. I find it better to use than my small binos.

I don't know what make it is as it was given to me by a friend who couldn't get on with it.

I made my own monocular by removing one bit (the bit with the focusing built in) from a pair of binoculars.  Sounds silly, but it is a lot easier to find bargain bins than mons and the dismantling is easy.

I have a £2 plastic 'Panaview' 5x16 one I bought at the Lifeboat Station at Trearrdur Bay, and its brill. And lightweight.
Surprisingly good optics. I fancy it is similar to the ones you sometimes see going cheap in garages.

I have one bought from Field & Trek many years ago I think it is a Heron 8x20 and only weighs 2.5 ounces it was quite useful but not sure if they still make it.As I like to fit a bit of birdwatching into our walks I find  a pair of 8x20 mini binoculars more useful. If there is a chance of sme good birding on a walk I find my 7x35 roof prisms worth the bit of extra weight.
