Nokia N95 UK Gird Ref?
1 to 7 of 7 messagesTo post a reply you need to be a member - Join now.

I have recently got a Nokia N95 phone and was wandering if anyone knows of a way to get the UK Grid System as an option for giving the GPS position on it or know of any cheap or free way of installing any software that will tell me the British Grid position i'm in instead of Long and Latt?

Also does Viewranger software tell me the position in British Grid? Hoping it will but until I can affor dit looking for a free alternative, Ta J

P.S. Before ya all start yes I meant Grid not Gird!

Try here, no idea if it works so don't blame me if it kills you.

i can offer some help on this as I have viewranger on my n95. im no GPS guru and havnt used anywhere near all the features on this powerful navigation aid. It certainly makes the most of the otherwise poor GPS ability of the n95. still has a slow start up GPS position around 2min but has proven to be reliable (so far)

 anyway to answer your question:

grid reference can be displayed as:

national grid

10, 8, 6 digit grid reference

lon/lat in either seconds, minutes or decimal

ITM

UTM

a brilliant addon to the n95 definatley worth the money - its cheap compared to other systems. has too many features to list. highly recommended.

I dont know of any other symbian based software

That looks like just the thing John! I'll download it now and install it, if my phone breaks I'll send you the bill!

Morph, the GB National Parks ViewRanger that is only £25, does that include all of the National Parks Landranger.

nice find John, ill download & use today. Ill post reply later on how it performs.

viewranger contains all the national parks:

ben nevis, brecons, carngorms, dartmoor, exmoor, lakes, loch lomond, new forest, norfolk broads, north york moors, northhumberland, peaks, pembroke, snowdonia, south downs and Dales

not bad for £25. 1:50,000

If id known how good it was id probably have purchaesd the 1:25k i think its about £50.

Raghead just reminded me about this, just wanted to let you guys know that I downloaded the free UTM Data package that John mentioned above and it works brilliantly, used it at weekend on the fells and it did exactly what I wanted it to, gives a quick grid ref and also tells me altitude! Cheers!
