Am looking to get a pair of these gloves ready for my Christmas adventures in the Lakes and Snowdonia as I'm fed up with the all in ones failing me - any opinions, positive or negative as to their effectiveness?

I used these a great deal last winter over a pair of fleece gloves and found them excellent. They keep out wind, rain and wet snow.

Thanks Chris, I thought they looked like they'd do the job. Just have to find them at a bargain price now.

I have a pair and they definitely keep the rain out. The very similar Extremities Hand Bags are to be had for a bargain price (if Small or XL suits, bearing in mind that they'll be sized as over-mitts) here.

Red Tent, you are a star! Thank you! I am indeed a S/XS so these are perfect.
They had better bloody work as im taking mine to Norway in March!
buy them you will not be dissapointed at all.
OT, but, what are you doing in Norway in March Shingsowa?
I have indeed bought them, thanks again. Out of interest, anyone ever been to Iceland in January? Iceland Express are offerring bargain flights and I've only ever been in August. Have been desperate to get back ever since though.

I've been in March a few years ago - it was a fantastic winter landscape (ski touring on the Vatnajokull icecap and ascending Snaefell), but the storms were the worst and coldest I've ever experienced and that includes going to Norway and Sweden in winter for the last 12 years. Iceland is brilliant though - I keep meaning to go back there myself.
I'll be needing me capilene thermals then! Where in Norway is the best place for a beginner to go ski touring?
That's a bit of a 'piece of string' question Hayley - the answer probably depends on whether you want to stay in civilisation or out in the wilds, whether you want to tour each day from a base or move on from hut to hut carrying all your kit, whether you want to tour in tracks on lightweight gear or 'backcountry' on heavier equipment, and how good a skier and experienced 'winter outdoors person' you are.... As an indicator though, the area of central Norway around the Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda is often a first destination for a lot of folk, it's a largely plateau area bordering the main E-W Oslo to Bergen railway so it's fairly accessible. There's assorted choice of accomodation or hut network, up at Finse, down at Geilo (which is a downhill skiing destination), and at places inbetween. And the terrain is probably a bit gentler and more forgiving than many other Norwegian mountain areas. It still makes good touring country though. And it is still a serious undertaking - it's the same area that that Scottish group got into difficulties last March with 2 fatalities!

As these are an "overglove" as Red tent points out does that mean a med pair should go over another med pair of extremities gloves? like for instance the freebie velo ones with the Trail subscription?
Sorry Matt, not paying attention to thread responses! Off snowholing and general winter mountain tomfoolery in the Finse/Hardangervidda area. Literally get off train, walk a bit, dig snowhole. About eight or nine going, all mountain rescue bods so we'll be well catered for safety wise! Only going for five days, two of which are essentially travel days, so not quite enough time to get into too much trouble. Hopefully!

Sandy T Yes, they are sized as overgloves so just buy your usual size, not a size up.

It's definately the way to go! After years of trying to get it right, i now carry a pair of windproof gloves for 90% of the time and a waterproof shell mitt for when it rains. A pair of Dachstein mitts are carried for emergency warm wear also in winter.

Hi, After experiencing frost nip I have experimentedwith loads of combinations of gloves! I now wear a liner glove, a sticky windstopper and tuff bags over the top. If I get really cold I can slip in hand warmers in between the windstopper and the mitt! Perfect! No way do I want to experience that pain again! Tuff Bags are brilliant, the only gloves that haven't failed on my husband and I in the worst conditions the Lakes could throw at us!

Tuff Bags are indeed wonderful. I like to wear OR Flurry gloves under the Tuff Bags. The best combo I've found, so far. -Andy
