I'm looking to purchase a GPS for under about 200... any one got any good recomendations..?

Depends what you want it to do. The basic Etrex seems well regarded, but the new Geko looks better for occasional use and is smaller and should be cheaper. Not available yet though. If you want to upload millions of waypoints to some vast Nasa super computer then I have no idea.

How are you planning to use it?

Looking for long term use..like to be able to upload/download maps on to it...
Basic GPS features..not fusssed about compass etc...
(Jon could you move this one to gear please I thought that where I put it!!)

The Etrex is fine for uploads downloads and I was slagging these off a year ago.
The Geko is in the shops now at 140 pounds.

Do you really want to upload maps onto your GPS, or 'just' waypoints (or linked waypoints to form a route)? Decent resoluion mapping GPSs are very expensive.

Another vote for the eTrex, but I know Holux have the Explorer (bigger than the etrex, but similar features) at about £100. Check out holux-uk.com for more info.
