Hi All

I am thinking of ordering a pair of these for UK use, skiing.Thought these plus a lightweight waterproof trouser would be more versatile for UK conditions.

Question is I see the online order form, how the heck do you put your size in ?

Ive read on forums they aint the quickest at responding to Emails,so thought I may get a quicker response here.

BTW, thinking of getting a Cargo pocket pair as opposed to front opening.

Any advice, guidance or thoughts on these salopettes greatly received.

Thanks

Ross, are these their salopettes made from K2 fleece?

If so, I had a pair for winter walking and ski touring about 10 years ago, and they were excellent - full length side zips, zip-fly, kangaroo pocket, microfibre patches on seat and knees. I often found them windproof enough and showerproof enough without any overtrousers and they were toasty warm. I only got rid when I moved over to Paramo!

I had these as well. Wore them for a few years until I went for somethinhg with a bit of stretch in it. Very nice, well made, good fabrics.

I used mail order the old style, a written form, when I bought them (and other products, good kit all round). So I'm not sure about the website, but they always answered the phone or returned my calls, worth a try?

Hi Matt

Yes those are them.I considered the Paramo Aspiras but I thought the combination of the K2 fleece and overtrousers may be better for UK conditions ??

PTC

Thanks..if I go ahead then I will ring them with my measurements as the online size box isnt good IMHO.

Note that K2 fleece is the same as Karisma is the same as Ultrafleece.  ME still make Ultrafleece sloppets as an alternative it might be easier to lay your hands on.  Price is about the same.

Pals of mine use the ME ones for skiing and general UK use and are happy with them so they'll do the job, but personally I prefer stretchy stuff on my legs with no call for long-johns or overtrousers unless it's chucking it down with rain.   Practically nothing dries quicker than Ultrafleece, but though it is more windproof than a lot of fleece it's not always quite as windproof as you'd like...  I'd prefer Schoeller Dryskin or Powershield or similar as a winter/skiing bib material, but it is more expensive.

For the UK, because Aspiras do rain and breathe better than OTs, and will keep the wind out too without the extra layer, I'd say they're probably the more versatile option in the UK.  The main thing I have against them is I prefer stretchy and close fitting, and you don't get that with either K2/Ultrafleece or Paramo.

Pete.

Thank you all for your contributions.

I cant find a "bibbed" pair of Schoeller  or powershields, apart from arcteryx sleeveless "catsuit" thingy...

You'd probably need to shop overseas, which of course has implications for trying on and sizing and returns etc., but Cloudveil do (or at least did) Schoeller ones and MEC do some in Powershield (mine are an older version of the MEC ones and have been absolutely superb for ski touring, though we did happen to be in Vancouver when we got them...).

I vaguely remember a rumour that Rab were going to do some Powershield ones some time in the coming year, but that might be (a) wrong or (b) just a vague idea rather than a solid plan.  get in touch with them to be sure.

Pete.

Thanks Pete

I asked Rab couple years ago if they thought about a bibbed version of their VR pants. They had made prototypes for their testers but decided there wasnt a market !Shame I think.

Didnt see the point in starting another thread, but Im looking at getting an Explorer fleece from Extreme Outdoor, but Im unclear on something.Do I ring or email and say I want a medium,or do i submit my measurements ?

Ive just had the Taiga Mountain fleece from the PHD sale and disappointed in it,so its going back ( I hope,as there nothing on PHD website about returns )

Id appreciate any comments on the product and the best way to order if possible ?

Thanks

PS

There is a mobile No somewhere on the net, Google for ebolcastle and/or 'where eagles dare' jacket and that will find all the info you are looking for.

The more you listen to Keith the better your kit will be.

Ah; it's part of Extreme's 'Customer Selection Process'.  'Who Googles Wins', and all that...

If you go to Extreme's website, a pop-up window appears with their contact details.  The 'Contact Us' page on their website doesn't have these details, strangely enough...

Well,if you do decide to order from Extreme,I hope that you will receive better service than I did.I initially E Mailed them for a catalogue but after a week this had failed to turn up.So I phoned them and after numerous attempts to speak with someone I eventually got through to Keith who explained that he tended to work on another job(Think it may have been Lorry Driving but can't be sure)in the mornings and it was therefore best to phone him either late afternoons or early evenings. To be fair he sounded really helpful on the phone and explained that he now only operated the business on a part time basis alongside his main job.Told me that he had recently kitted out the Keswick Mountain Rescue team with Explorer fleeces which had their own logo sewn onto the fleece. As I say,he seemed really helpful on the phone and promised to send me out a catalogue straight away.Needless to say, this failed to turn up and I so I gave up and decided to place my business elsewhere and ordered a Karisma fleece from Hilltrek who are based up in Scotland and have their own website.I have also ordered one of the PHD fleeces in their Winter sale but after reading Ross's comments it looks as though I may be disappointed with this product when it arrives. We shall see.Anyway, maybe I was just unlucky with Extreme or maybe their service is extremely poor.I would be interested to hear of other peoples experiences with them.

My impressions of the PHD fleece..but I hasten to add they are MY impressions before I get any stick...

The look and feel of the fleece wasnt very nice at all..regardless of performance Im one of those people who like to like the appearance of what I buy as well as performance,it my dosh so be it £60 or £600...its my choice.

The Sleeves were indeed baggy and short..using the thumb loops,if I stretched I probaby would dislocate my thumbs.

So, its going back...
