Just how easy is it to get on with the MM tent.  I have seen mixed reviews on it, but realisticaly just how practical is it.  I am just under 6'.  Has the fact that you apparantly can't sit up in it really caused anyone real problems.

It is intended for a quick doss and move on. Mesh inner and enough room for you to sleep in with a running sack.

No you cant sit in it or do much else for that matter - it does what is says on the tin 'mountain marathon'. But at the weight there are bettter options. However they are cheap in Cotswold Outdoors at the moment.

I'd rate it a bit better than that. I'm 6ft and have used mine for several week-long backpacking trips, including being trapped in it by Pyrenean thunderstorms for 24 hours on occasion. No you definitely can't sit up, but I found I could kneel while leaning forward onto my elbows when I wanted a change from lying down. And there was plenty of space to get dressed / undressed inside.

The inner is very spacious except for height - because of the offset design it's very long (going on 8ft I'd guess) and it's also wide so there's bags of room for lots of kit down each side, as well as some in the porch. And I found I could cook by placing the stove just outside the porch door and reaching out to it on account of the side-opening design.

All that is very positive, and in the right conditions it's a good little tent. It stood up to plenty of weather. Ultimately I moved away from using mine much because of the mesh inner. I knew that was a compromise for me when I bought it, and it makes it colder than a true two-skin tent, and harder to pitch in the rain, and prone to drips when heavy condensation occurs. So when the TN Superlite Voyager came out, I moved on.

But no, not being able to sit up was never a problem!

That's great chaps, thanks.  Yes you're right bluto they are very cheap in CO at the moment, and going quick - that was why I posted this really to get some quick 'real' advice before getting one.  If you can live in it for a week Matt, then I guess it can't be that bad.  Thanks

 Steve

I bought one last week for £80 as I don't think much else will beat it at that price?

At £80 for a new MM it may be cost effective for Scottish Mountain Gear Repair to replace the mesh with a non mesh orange/yellow inner material.

If every Mountain Marathon owner on OM got together and made contact with SMG they might do a group discount?
