Hi, my Camp Rockstar helmet was viciously blown off a cliff in a freak gust the other day never to be found

So... I need a replacement, but this time I want somethign a little better then the Camp one. It had no way of fastening a torch onto it which I found quite annoying.

I also want a helment I can use for a variety of activities. Mainly climbing (and this is most important) but preferably also for snowboarding and at a stretch kyaking.

Does anyone have any decent suggestions? I would rather not spend more then about £60 (I think I shoudl get something good for that price). I would like it if it was red too

Hi Smeg,

sorry to hear that you lost your lid... it wasn't that long ago that we were talking helmets and you had just bought it?

There's a few good suggestions in there. You could always try one of those Kong Scarab's if you want a multi-sport certified helmet. I am not sure that the design of Snowboarding helmets is sufficiently similar to that of climbing & kayaking helmets to find one that is good for both...

I still haven't bought my own helmet, managing with the Camp Rockstar's that my club has on loan. But if I was buying one (and the sale season is the right time) it would probably be the Petzl Elios as it just seems a good all-rounder.

I know John, its a joke! I used that helment about 5 times and then it goes launching off a cliff into a quarry pit Damn thing. We even climbed right down into the pit and it literally was no-where to be found at all. And it was bright red! I have no idea how it has managed to dissapear like that.
The helios is a nice lid, and I reckon I migth go for one of those too, I think it would do for snowboarding, maybe not safety rated for snowsports but what is the difference? If I fall backwards onto ice it iwll protect the back of my head and thats all I need really.

The Scarab is ideal but really pricey and I odnt know if I can justify spending all that money on something that if I give it a good bach would need replacing

Salewa Helium from Needlesports for £60. Rated for climbing and watersports (and cycling, so I guess Adventure Racing targeted). Probably no good for snowboarding.... and certainly not cool enough!

Smeg,

the Kong Scarab is 79Euros - about £59 - here in France... you aren't planning an alpine excursion are you? Or even Pyrenean if you're in my neck of the woods?

My reservations about this kind of helmet are more to do with my inability to keep them from getting damaged in my bag! I'd prefer a decent thickness of plastic around the styrofoam!
