Know they've only been out for a few weeks but has anybody tried these boots yet? Jon I know you said you have a pair in for test, any early thoughts?

I'm looking for a pair of boots that have a good stiff sole for scrambling and can also take a crampon if needed. Seeing as I find that Salomon boots tend to be a good fit I was thinking these might be a good option.

They feel quite solid and clumpy, haven't really used them yet but am planning to get out tomorrow for some first impresions.

Anybody else tried them yet? I tried a pair on on Sunday and they felt just like my Super Mountain Experts but considerably lighter.

The thing that'll be hard to call initially is how much they'll soften up with use. Like I said, right now there's some flex, but not a lot...

Just some quick feedback. Not being the most patients of blokes I bought a pair of the Protreks and after much stomping around on the stairs at home took them to the lakes with me last weekend.

Initial thoughts are that they are an excellent purchase. Really comfortable straight out of the box (although I do have the right shaped feet for Salomon boots) with the right combination of stiffened sole and soft upper. Tried some easy scrambling and they performed really well. Would guess that they would only be good for occasional crampon wear but all in all make a good 3-4 season boot.

Obviously these thoughts are only after one day on the hill but will keep you posted!

Sorry I've not had a chance to wear these properly yet. Will try to get out at the weekend wth them though. Glad you like them.

Sorry Jon, the patient thing wasn't a dig at you. It was a reference to my "why wait to xmas/birthday etc when I can have it NOW attitude". As my suffering wife will give evidence to!
