I am interested in a hooped bivy bag,do you think these Terra Nova Jupiter bags will be identical spec.,they do look it to me but the field & trek one is much cheaper,do you think theirs may be an older model?

The idea of just unrolling it & sticking the single pole into the ground then staking it down, rather than fighting with a tent while solo in wet & windy weather does appeal to me.

Personally I tried this style of Bivy (the Rab Ridge Raider) but decided I preferred the Integral Designs Uni Shelter http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/shop/shop.php?c=viewproduct&pid=160&cat=84&maincat=2&start=0&sid=sidea866a1bfb7e3fc5fec9cb04cd5ff01a I have used this bivy on several trips and continue to be very happy with it. However, it is a little on the heavy side if you are looking for something lightweight.

Thanks for that Roger.

On looking at pictures on the Terra Nova site compared to the Field & trek site,Terra nova site pictures of the jupiter bivi show a storm hood over the zip.

The field & trek picture does not show this,is this simply not been fitted for the field & trek picture or is it a later devellopment that is shown on the terra nova website,if its a later devellopment surely field & trek should state its not the latest model despite the cheap price ?

Hmmm!

Yes I would agree with you there is a difference and I would prefer the Terra Nova picture over the Field and Trek picture. However, I moved away from the "crocodile" mouth design because it did not provide me with the ease of access I prefer. By the way the Field and Trek picture looks more like the outdoor research design bivy

I looked at the bag in your link Roger & see access into & out of the bag looks great,im not sure i would trust those full length zips in very wet weathe, though they would probably never fail.

I read the reviews of the jupiter on this site & access is a problem for some but all reviews agree its a top bag.

I'll call field & trek in the morning to find out for sure if its last years model they are selling.

I called field & trek this morning & they said they are sending out the latest version of the Jupiter & the picture used for illustration on the their website hasnt been updated.

so it seems a good enough deal at £180 for the jupiter which is £230 to anyone buying from Terra Novas website, though im sure someone will find it cheaper than that somewhere for a new one!
