Hi All You may or may not know ( I didnt ! ) that Alpkit have some designs for some sofshell jackets ( one with a hood as well ! ).. Apologise if this is already common knowledge, but I thought there may be some excitement about this due to the value for money of their other products.

I see the new head torch from Alpkit goes online next week also.
where does it say about the soft shells? I cant find anything on their website?
I'm waiting for the "Alpkit Tent"........and it'll be available in RED...or bloodywell better be!!!!!
Id buy a an Alpkit tent probably without even looking at the specs Personally I only buy Alpkit products in Chilli Red! At first I was a little self concious of my fantom being so bright but eventually I thought "well at least it matches my tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat and daysac!"
Do you think they would ever make a nice simple, lightweight, packable synthetic insulated top. obviously in red also? Id buy one of em too.
I mailed Alpkit to ask when the balaclava would be available. They said there was a delay and they would probably be made same time as the soft shell jackets as they are made of the same material.
Anyone any idea when the soft shell jackets will be available?
Probably about the same time as the balaclavas, Dave.

Ermm... surely delivery dates are known throughout the huge enterprise that is Alpkit...?
...or is Alpjim skiing down the mountainside from the hideout of the alpine soft-shell elves, with a huge pack of soft shells on his back?

Well, your right (mutters under his breath "not that trouble maker again, making us look like a bunch of idiots") However..... Jim was at the factory in Asia a few weeks ago where he had some samples made from varouis fabric (toray, ASF, factory supplied and a few others) all pretty good fabrics but quite different in price, performance and delivery lead times. He had one day back and then was straight on holiday, with a bunch of samples. Once he's back then we should be able to decide which fabric we are going for. What i can say that there is production on order, or indeed fabric so it is not going to be in the next 3 months, Cheers Nick

Is there any idea how much they will be when they're out?
wouldn't that rather depend upon the fabric.

Sorry, Nick, I just didn't understand, that's all (and was all rather tongue-in-cheek). If he's doing 'field testing' that's a different matter. I'm off skiing in early March if you need any testers...
I do envy you getting to play with fabrics and designs. All I get to play with is GPS chipsets, GSM transceivers, 3-D silicon accelerometers, rate gyros, digital compasses, etc...
ps. is being a troublemaker why I didn't get through to the next stage of CoLab...?
;-)

wouldn't that rather depend upon the fabric. Not if they're designed to cost. I'm certain that the Hunka design spec was something along the lines of "waterproof/breathable bivi bag for around £25".
