i am looking to buy a lightweight waterproof jacket... any ideas on what i should go for....my criteria is that is should be fairly lightweight (i have a gore tex jacket and its a little to heavy)  it should pack down well and that it shouldnt break the bank.... i have been checking out various online retailers but havent seen anything on sale at the mo that is catching my eye....

try the golite Virga

50-60 quid and 200-odd grammes

I bought a NF Diad (252g) from the US and it is nice; the thing to remember with LW jackets - esp from the US is that weight savings often come from them being cut short (it never rains in the US it seems); perhaps not ideal for the UK?

My Montane Superlight....more lengthy.. (I think) weighs about 350g and is the biz.

Aye, have a look at Montane. The 180 or 200, the Air (if you can find one) and the Superfly are all good.

Depends on your budget and how light you need it to be tho'.

All the above are good choices and I've been using  Haglofs Oz and LIM Ultimate jackets which, although made of Paclite have been rather good. Both over £100 though.

Look for the Montane venture, weighed my large the other day and it was good at 450 grammes.  Longish as a backpacking jacket and not to flimsy.

May find one from last years models around cheap

Nice looking jacket for the price but I think I would have to pay the extra for a different colour!

I'm sure its not fashionable, but as a waterproof it has done me proud.
