I've been presented with the opportunity to go down to Cornwall this Friday with the intention of wild camping for three days, and was just wondering if any of you here were familer with the place and could recommend some remote areas that may offer a good chance for some solitude.

The Lizard

but check tides and watch out for Long horn cattle in the Predannick area. Vist Kynance cove again check tides - a fabulous spot what ever the weather.

Anywhere in the Penwith peninsula (SW of Penzance & St. Ives) is good too. Parts are like Little Dartmoor-by-Sea.

completely agree.....once you get past St Ives, it turns very wild and rugged and the scenery is great (towering cliffs, sea views that sort of thing)

Billy, Try the Luxulyan valley , near Bodmin, a pretty special place for wildlife;narrow high banked lanes so not too much traffic.  Victorian Viaduct still in place after 150 years plus. If you go there tell me what you think , have not been for quite a few years now. Tim F

West Penwith, was there in early Jan, very quiet.  Plenty of scope for discreet wild camping inland and anywhere around the coast.

Area around Predannack (Between Lizard, Kynance & Mullion) was also good for wild camping last time I was there.

I've posted before that the Penwith moors is one of my favourite places to walk. Usually quiet even when the coast is heaving with tourists. Lots and lots and lots of prehistoric sites
to visit. Old engine houses too. Stunning views of the coast (sometimes both coasts).

Theres a network of paths criss-crossing the moors that you'll need the OS Explorer map for (or Getamap) . Many of them aren't public footpaths so are only marked by a faint row of dots which can be difficult to spot amongst all the clutter.

I'm off there for two weeks at the beginning of March

Edit: Camping on the coast path in the middle of an Atlantic storm can be "fun". Horizontal rain is a good test of a tent. And if you're lucky spray from the waves crashing on the rocks 100 feet below.
