HI, im new but decided to join after reading some of the reviews on this site. anyway ive been thinking about a 8-10 day hike in scotland along the coast in highlands (havnt chosen any route yet). Ive had a highlander forces 88 for years which i like but when its loaded it kind of falls side ways infront of me and the shoulder straps dont counter it well enough (itd get really anoying), its old and worn now so time for new. ive never been wilderness camping in scotland before but im guessing cold + v.wet... so perhaps macpac? i dunno im not up to date latest and greatest packs so any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks! Alex

I'm having similar deliberations over in this thread:

I started with Osprey and I'm investigating other options as people suggest them...

MacPacs are the the Dogs.........But for how much longer ? If your carryin alot of weight the harness system they use is fantastic... but they, in themselves are abit heavy (great support though) and pricey and alas they are seemingly going going but I cant say just yet...... gone?

it depends on your other kit too, if you've got a lot of other heavy kit you'll need a beefier pack. what's your basewieght? I don't think scotland is drastically colder or wetter than any other mountainous area in britain which is generally cold and wet!!

i found this at the Climbers Shop, Trail gave this a great review last year (I think), I havent got this one but I have got the Gregory Z and its an excellent pack - you'll need a decent liner though...but 60 litres sounds ideal http://www.climbers-shop.com/4538/products/Gregory_Triconi_Pack.aspx sorry i havent yet discovered how to paste a link

Osprey make nice packs, and these new Lightwave ones look really good too. I've last years model, the S54, and am very pleased with it. Very light, capacious, strong and comfortable.

Go and try some on with the sort of kit insdier you'd be carrying. That's the best way to find which is most comfortable for you: you'll be adifferent shape from other folk, so that they think the Brand X Model Y is glorious isn't necessarily much help to you. As for wilderness camping in Scotland... might be cold and wet, might be a glorious heatwave: you can't assume in advance. Pete.
