II tried a pair of Salomon Men's Solaris II Shoes in Blacks this atfernoon and the first thing I did was  take them off and check the size label to see if they were really size 10s as they felt much too small. Has any one had any experince with this manufacturer and which sizes match up to english sizes?

Also which other manufacturers of shoes seem to vary in the sizing of their boot/shoes?

Best wishes, Mark

They used to be one size too small but they changed that a few years ago. I hav'nt bought any since then so maybe they've gone back to their wierd sizing..

I found the uppers split on mine(various pairs bought cheap over  10yrs) after 6 months light use so I wouldnt recommend them anyway.

I used to be half a size up in the XAs, but now I'm my normal size.

Why this is, I'm at a loss to explain.

I've got some approach shoes and mid boots on test at the moment and both make great foot tourniquets if I use my normal size.

The last pair I had were ridiculously small. I had to go for a full size larger than usual, which took me right to the top of their size range.

always try salomon shoes on. at times i think someone at the end of the line guesses the size and sticks a label on. i've had half a size and a full size up. i've tried a full size up that were smaller than the half size up!!! and even different pairs in the same size in the same shoe are different sizes.

Yep, I have had problems with Salomon boots being to small.

At first I just thought that the tightness was due to a "technical fit", when trying them on in the shops.

I have a B2 rated Salomon boot, but I wore them on a recent sunny trip to the lakes after injuring my foot and needed the maximum support.

Didn't really notice anything on the accent. But during the first decent they did this.... (look away now if your squeamish)!

But Parky... they were in the sale... half price... didn't have a size bigger... £60 instead of £120... feel a bit tight, but I'm sure they'll wear in... £60 god damn it... fool to say no... 60 bloody quid!!!

Bolox... your right!!!

I found the same with some Altberg boots I tried on on Thursday. Extra wide my arse! Whatever you do, don't buy them online without first trying them on somewhere.

I take a 10.5 normal width, I reckon I'd need an 11.5 XXW in an Altberg.

I find Solomons too small but even if I go up a size then they are too low on the bridge of my foot and cause pins and needles in my toes whatever I do with the lacing or my socks.

I gave my last pair away and I have now come to the conclusion that if it says

" Womens , Scarpa , Size 5" they will fit me nice from rock shoes to summer boots to winter climbing boots.

I find Salomon shoes to be much too big. I seem to be stuck between sizes - UK 8 is too big and with 7.5 my toe is squashed down by the toe cap (the length is fine, at least a finger's width between my toe and the end). This is with the new xr crossmax. I now have a pair of £85 shoes in a UK 7.5 I can't decide whether to persevere with or not. I don't expect the synthetic toe cap will magically change shape to become more comfortable.

I've only had one pair of Salomons but they were great, spot on for size and have short, fat feet. They fell apart after 10 years though.

Salomons fit me at half a size up.  Can never get Merrells to fit though (I always link these together at similar brands, rightly or wrongly).

I'm with you, Zippy, I need an extra half-size up with Salamon footwear.
