I am looking for a 2 man tent for backpacking in moderate or good weather.

The two i am looking at are the vango tempest and the coleman avoir x2.

Any help on decided would be appreciated.

That is kind of what we've been discussing on here of late at above OM thread link, in case that helps at all there?

The general consensus of opinion on OM seems to be that Vango are the better tent make of the two in question it seems to be. The Tempest is one I am considering the most, amongst a few others right now.

The Tempest is a fantastic tent for the money. You wont be dissapointed, I've had mine for about 3 years now and if i was looking for a tent in the same price bracket I would happily get another.

When looking the other day, I think the above link had one of the best prices I found then for the Coleman Avoir X1 tent. edit - Note though that this particular Coleman tent is only listed as being a one person spec! The X2 does not look much better to me! For the same money one could very easily find a better more roomy tent, giving a single occupant much more space for gear storage, living in during bad weather, etc. This Coleman is definitely looking the worse buy of the two listed given choices for these reasons alone already, for my mind!

Here is the Avoir x2 best price I found the other day too, at above link. Still not my cup of tea really though!2.45 kg's seems a bit heavy maybe for me. The Banshee by Vango is only 2kg's by comparison. The Tempest too is heavier still at 2.75kg's I think.

nb - The Tempest 07 model it has been pointed out to me is a bit heavier than the 08 model at 2.87kg's http://www.norwich-camping.co.uk/product_details/Vango_TBS_Tempest_200_07_model/3744.html

ok!

If you look around you can often get the Vango Spirit 200 for around £100 sometimes.

Interesting that it can be had for just a hundred, as I have not managed myself to find it at much less than the £150.00 mark-but then that is more too really than I want to pay!

I do agree though that it was certainly a generally very well liked tent, on here particularly anyway!

I would tend to agree with Ray here. I have an Avior X2, although it is a really nice tent, well made and hasn't caused me any problems at all I wish I had gone for the Tempest (a friend has one) I find the extra space in the vestibule better. The Avior is lighter though.

Coleman make good quality budget price tents - if you buy one you will not be disappointed with the quality.

As I say not a bad tent at all - I seem to be the only person in the world who bought one.

Not the only person Paul, as when I was looking around at the tent specs online the other day, there were a few places sold out of that Avoir x2 I noticed!

There is still I feel, the option of the Hoy by Wild Country too even, though at 2.7kg's I feel that a bit heavy for what I want as well. A possible one for consideration I still feel however!
