I reviewed this pack (which is now discontinued) in TGO back in 2005. Here's what I said:
"The Galaxy is one of the few packs I felt really enthusiastic about. It’s the lightest pack tested with the best volume to weight ratio. I found it comfortable with a 20kg load, showing that a pack doesn’t have to be heavy to support such weights. The key to the comfort is a big wide hipbelt made from moulded foam that curves round the hips and spreads the weight over them. There’s also a removable framesheet with two alloy bars in it plus a thermo-moulded foam back pad. The shoulder straps are slightly stretchy so they conform to your shape as you move. The back isn’t adjustable but the Galaxy comes in three back lengths said to fit spines from 41 to 56cms long. The medium just fits me. As well as comfortable the Galaxy is very stable when crossing steep, rough terrain.
The pack is made from lightweight ripstop polyester that feels pretty strong, though it’s probably not as abrasion resistant as heavier fabrics. It’s protected anyway by much tougher fabric on the front and base and mesh pockets on the lower sides. The Galaxy is rather rectangular in shape, which means that care is needed when packing to keep heavy items close to the back. In particular I wouldn’t put anything heavy in the large rear pocket. There are watertight zips on this pocket, the lid pocket and the lower compartment. However the seams can still leak so this pack shouldn’t be treated as waterproof. Rain can also get in through the slot for a hydration tube and this could do with a cover. The lid could do with being slightly bigger and the front lid straps could do with being lower down the pack so there is more scope for adjustment when the pack isn’t full. These are minor criticisms however.
Overall I think the Galaxy is an ideal pack for those who want a light pack that will handle reasonably heavy loads."
