Right i have a major issue with the shops that sell scarpa manta's , all i want is a size 44

Now some out there will be saying ok put your order in and wait for them to arrive , stick em on ya feet and start breaking them in . Ah that would be fine but i have an issue about the sales of out of date boot design being sold at full prices £165.99.

I have been informed this morning whilst ringing round my local dealers that there will be a change to the design of the boot this year for next season and as the snow melts so should the price of the old design . i'm not tight i just dont earn 25 grand a year ,i m sure that there are plenty of scarpa fans out there( ha ha infact  there is a scarpa owners club section on the forum ).

i'm sure someone out there owns a shop that doesn't rip off poor walkers and climbers , maybe there has to be a cut off point before scarpa allow there retailers to drop there prices i dont know . i just feel ripped off and thats before i even get the boots on my feet . The thing is these boots feel like slippers on my feet at least they did in the well know shop in keswick ....

I came home to see if i could find a pair at a lower price or even use my bmc or mlta number to get the price down but i just got laughed at . So even after all these years of getting the poor man into the fells and mountains its still looks like its a rich mans sport only for the few sorry keep out its snowing and its only for the rich ....

tell you what i'll bang some six inch nails through my cloggs maybe no one will notice my flat cap and whippet up great gable next year ......

SO CAN YOU HELP DO YOU KNOW OF A QUALLITY SHOP WHO WILL SELL ME A PAIR OF SCARPA MANTA'S SIZE 44 IN BLUE , CHEAPER THAN RRP£165.99

I JUST WANNA GO OUT IN THE SNOW AND FEEL SAFE .

BY THE WAY THE WELL KNOWN SHOP IN KESWICK WERE VERY HELPFULL AND I WILL CONTINUE TO SHOP THERE . THE STAFF ARE SOME OF THE NICEST I'VE COME ACROSS AND IF I CANT GET A GOOD DEAL BEFORE MAY I'LL GO AND HASSLE THEM INSTEAD .This will come in the form of hey i believe scarpa are bringing out a new version of the manta with a new way of fitting the crampon they are going to give away with the boot ......GET THAT.........

YEAH I JUST WENT TO HAVE A LOOK BUT THE MISSES IS GONNA ORDER ME A PAIR FOR MY BIRTHDAY .

This is all cos i was sick of trying to get shops to sell me a pair of flexi crampons for my 3 season boots , well stuff em all these boots are like gloves i couldn't believe how comfy they were in the shop . this will be my first pair of winter boots .I've put it off saying its too dear and that i will put up with walking lower through the winter but i cant do it any more i love the snow its awsome . its just a different kinda hill day all together .

cheers for that although i'm still concerned about the fact that scarpa are bringing out a new boot that has some sort of new fixing for crampons infact i believe they will be throwing in a pair of cramps so joe bloggs will buy their boot . arghhhh wot do i do ...????

Some nice videos there, Ric. Thanks. My Quicktime plug-in doesn't work for some reason (and I have a distrust of most things Apple anyway) so I hunted them down on YouTube. They're posted under the name of posingpodcasts.

I agree with your comment "these boots feel like slippers on my feet" Ric, a couple of years ago I spent a whole day on Cairngorm with a cross and chain in the right boot of my M4's and never noticed it until I took the boots off when we got back to the car.

It must've have been the anasthetic after effects of the pub the night before

Just waiting to hear if she ordered them for me ,  as we are passing ships . like i said though its a worry that i'm gonna get ripped off , due to what i heard yesterday . the design change and the free cramps that will defo come with the purchase . the thing is if the design has changed will the crampons only fit the new boot . so its a toss up really between going for what i know and the new boot on the block . After all i'm not about to do some massive gullies but i do want a boot that will allow me some fun . and if i can put a flexi cramp to the m4's this means i can keep the cramps in my bag just incase i come across a bit of ice late in the season when i'm wearing my merralls how ever you spell them .....

everyone seems to like the m4 apart from 1 or 2 peeps and i see alot on the fells in the lakes . must be worth a punt i think .

by the way the vids are ace we are thinking of doing the keswick film festival just to hassle juliet bradbury . i want to ask the same old question nice routes wainright did but do you think you could tell all those idiots who watch you the way off aswell . we have come to the conclusion she gets to the top of somewere and jumps in a helicopter .just like all those afor mentioned ramblers who ask me were to go next or worse still ring mr teams for directions .....

as far as finding things in ya boot goes i've had a few coins rattling around mine before now . i suppose its thick socks aswell as the beer lol

Just a thought but which 3 season boots do you have?  Do they definitely not take crampons?  For instance Scarpa SLs are 3/4 season and do take crampons.

To be honest I started with SLs and used them with crampons with no problem.  I then bought Mantas in the belief they were what was needed for more serious stuff.  In reality, even in Scotland, Mantas are overkill and I've reverted back to my SLs (and there are some on here who think even they are unneccesary!  Seriously thinking of ebaying the Mantas!

salomon contagrip gt thingys i have had them for about 5years and to be completley honest i'd rather climb everest in a pair of converse trainers ,at least they'd have more grip than these suckers up helvelyn .In rain soaked grass they are like skimming stones on a frozen pond . thought i was getting a good deal ,even the walk between the old dungeon gill and the stickle barn needs risk assesing before i set off . they are the biggest peice of crap i've ever bought . infact i have pics up of my misses and me at sprinkling tarn last week and on the way down i got out my axe just incase i had to self arrest .she on the other hand stomped her way down in a pair of 40 quid karrimors .

erm scarpa manta m4 nice pair of grivels or banna skins on my feet , saftey first . i could put flexi cramps on but to be completley honest at the end of the day the boot even in the dry aint that good . infact i wouldn't put my feet in another pair of salomon's again it took 3 years to get my feet use to them always had cold toes due to size across .

i've been dead cheeky and contacted scarpa and suggested they let me have a pair of their new design to review them . somehow i think they'll just laugh .....

I'm buying them also because i believe if you buy the best you can afford they will last ,and seeing as we aren't on 25grand a year these seem the best ......  I dont want to be spending every 5 years a ton plus on boots that only get 4months usage a year . although when the lottery comes in i might get to go to the alps lol dreaming i think

AT has got a good point, whats wrong with SL's.

Show/hide user stats

I had a pair of the original Trionic Manta's which I used for years in the UK and the Alp's and absolutely loved. When the time came to replace them I found that the Manta's had evolved into a far more specialised boot and SL's had everything the original Manta had except for the leather lining. I have worn SL's ever since and found them to be every bit as good as the old Manta's.

nowt i suppose but ,i've tried both on and have decided on m4's cos i like the feeling on my feet they're are like i said "feel like slippers on my feet" and ya cant beat that .

there's only price that would change my mind , but if i want to up my mountain fun i would end up having to spend again and that's just silly . maybe i'm not doing grade 3's yet but i can see in the future i might . i love the mountains here on our little island but i would love to go to the alps its been a dream of mine so i have to spend wisley now so when i feel capable and a bit flush i have the equipment . dunno maybe i'm just dreamin , but you got have somthing to strive for .

Show/hide user stats

oh by the way i'm worse than a woman when it comes to buying kit atleast thats what the misses says . sl's brown, mantas blue christ if i could get a black pair of sl's you might just turn me lol

na i spend hours researching kit that i think is good and i end up with somthing i didn't want in the first place just cos someone says its good for them . i wanted a 50litre +10 rucsack and spent about 60hrs just looking at sacks when i eventually wnet to buy one i came home with a karrimor panther 65 litre cos i was told by everyone er we dont make 50lt sacks for men ...... six weeks on i walk around keswick and see ten different brands all with mens fittngs sizes . so i'll be sticking to the m4's they might not go on big ice climbs or long snow packed gullies but they feel comfy and thats what i'll be spending my partners cash on .......

Hello , i bought some m4's from gf and they are ok but whilst breaking them in i have found one boot to be a bit sloppy on the heel how do i get them to stop flopping about everything else is fine they are really comfy apart from one heel . I'm weird one foot is a little smaller than the other . The first time i tried a pair on there was no real problems since i've worn them for a while just this one boot is bugging me and if i dont sort it i can see blisters on the horizon . i have read somewhere on here that you can buy inserts for this problem but were do i get them from . any advice greatfully accepted .
