These boots are in Meindl's 'Light-Hiker' range and rated as 'AB' or easy hikes on level ground or low level hills.

Does anyone have any experience of these boots? They appear to be quite unique in as much as they are a relatively light leather boot un-encumbered with Gore-Tex liners!!!

I'm guessing the whole 'AB' rating is subjective but can any one give a reason why a boot like this wouldn't be suitable for 3 season UK hill walking?

As long as they've got a decent heel cup, to hold the foot in place, and a grippy tread pattern it strikes me they should be fine for hill use.

I'll have to find somewhere that has them in stock....

It's a shame there aren't more lightweight, non-membrane boots available.....

you may struggle to find some models in the uk,

if you want light walking boots that are non membrane then 2 models easier to find would be

meindl jersey

scarpa ranger

 hth

ooh, they look nice. i have a pair of bjornholm (sp?) which have the ab sole and they are just fine for three season stuff.

Parky - Are you referring to the Tampas?
Show/hide user stats

no. i'm not sure they make them anymore - the bornholm. girls version

as opposed to the tampa

The Meindl Tampa is available in the UK for both ladies and gents either with or without the goretex lining.  In my opinion the Tampa would suit 3 season UK hill use.  Not a model I currently stock but Meindl are kind enough to offer me sale or return on their UK stock range so if anybody wants to try them please get in touch.
