Vargo triad XE for sale on ultralightoutdoorgear for £19.  Seems a good price looking around but before I spend out the money I want to hear what people have to say about this type of stove.  I see that Bob also does the Traid but the simpler version for £20.

Does anyone use this type of stove and if so how do they rate it? Also where is the best bargain although I think I've found them.

I want it to fit inside my Vargo Ti-lite Titanium cup so do these fit?

Thanks

I suggest you read the BPL USA reviews of the Vargo stoves.

The reviews reflect my experiences

Some of the comments in the reviews seem to suggest that they haven't quite got the hang of filling the thing.

"Kind of a pain to fill due to the small holes".

Did they miss the instruction about removing the inner lid, perhaps?

"2) Remove lid from inner container and carefully pour denatured alcohol inside container to desired level."

I'm just hypothesising; haven't seen the thing in real life.

I had one a while ago when I was in the US, filling it was not an issue for me, but when compared to many other alcohol stoves  it did not work for me. I use a mo go gear fire fly or a Caldera Cone these days.

I've just viewed the instructions and it simply states, remove lid and fill to desired level then replace lid.  Seems very easy.

I've made pepsi stoves and these work ok but I like the idea of the stand and stove in one item.

Just don't want to waste money if its c**p.

I`ve used Bob`s version a lot over the past year.

To fill it I use a nalgene bottle with a flip up spout. You have to fill it slowly or the meths goes everywhere.

The fold out legs are good but if its on the ground they are sharp so it sinks into the ground when the pan is on it. This takes the heat out of it so it takes longer to burst into life. Also the pan supports are good for my MSR Titan kettle thingy but bigger pans make it a bit unstable and smaller cup size pans are a pain to balance as the pan supports fold out to far.

I prefer Backpackinglight Bobs white box stove to the original Triad that I bought .
